Hi Marilyn, I have found several DOYLE/REDMOND couples with children registered in the Wexford region - one at the same Townland as mine! - Monagrena - and one at a possible nearby Townland - Harrow .Other Townlands mentioned are ' Carrigeen; Clone and Tobergal; all of them appear to be in the same region as my Townlands - my main one is Ballytracey. However none of the births had a Bridget Redmond as mother, neither can I find Margaret or Mary's births for the years you gave. However, that doesn't mean they are not correct, it's just that they are not on this particular list I have, which I think is of R.C. registations in the area. I am not sure where I this list came from as it was emailed to me a couple of years ago by a friend, though I think it may be something to do with Griffiths Valuations. Tina
Tina and Marilyn and others... My apologies for not responding sooner (and it will be a few more days). My only excuse is that I am a Lutheran Pastor, it is Lent, I have an extra service each week, and a funeral of a lifelong church member to boot. Please me patient and I will give more information regarding my Doyles. Thanks everyone! Lyn A name of your convict would help also as others on the list may be related by surname and it would be wonderful to see you connect with someone I guess you have looked at the NAI Transport register to see if there were any other papers listed for him???? Thanks Cara, Posted on the 10th - Mathew CONNELLY born 1797 and his brother Timothy. Unfortunately, they are not on the NAI register and I have pretty much exhausted Australian resources. I am interested in how the system worked in Ireland though anyway if anyone can help or recommend any books. Googling hasn't given me much information from that time frame. regards Lyn ----- Original Message ----- From: "Cara_Links" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, March 18, 2006 9:24 PM Subject: Re: [WEX] trials in wexford 1820 > Lyn > > A name of your convict would help also as others on the list may be > related by surname and it would be wonderful to see you connect with > someone > I guess you have looked at the NAI Transport register to see if there were > any other papers listed for him???? > Cara > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Lyn Nunn" <[email protected]> > To: <[email protected]> > Sent: Wednesday, March 15, 2006 4:35 PM > Subject: [WEX] trials in wexford 1820 > > >> Hi all >> >> I have a convict tried at Wexford for burglary in 1820. I am searching for the parents of John Doyle born June 01,1849 at Wexford. John Immigrated to the US in 1866 and settled in the state of Texas. I do not know anything about his Irish parentage. I have located two ships leaving Dublin in the time frame I am looking at - the S.S. Erin and the S.S. Malta. They each have a John Doyle on the ships list approximately 17/18 years old. Can anyone help me find his ancestry? Thank you, Bernice Hope Doyle New Braunfels, Texas
Re: the Doyle family belonging to Tina and Bill. Hi Bill, Interested in your DOYLEs from Enniscorthy area. I have DOYLE ancestors fro m around the Ferns area which is just a few mile north of Enniscorthy, but is in the district of Enniscorthy for registration. Tina Oates
Hi Su, The Townland of Nook is in the Civil Parish of St. James and Dunbrody. Now if the records you need are in the St. James/Templetown records they date (on film) from 1792 for Baptisms (with some breaks), Marriages from Nov. 1792 (again some breaks) and burials from Jan. 1816-1879 on film No.4245 from the NLI (or Wexford Library if you can't get it locally). But if you need the records for St.James/Hook the dates are Bapt. from Nov.1835 - Dec. 29th. 1880 with a gap between Aug. 1840 - March 1844. Marriages from Nov. 1875 - Nov. 1880 and Burials from Oct. 1835 - May 1854 with the ages of the deceased on film No.4258 from the Film library of the NLI (again if you can't get it locally, try Wexford Library) These film numbers are not those used by the LDS, they have their own reference numbers. slan Cyril Newsome Loch Garman... ----- Original Message ----- From: "Su Brown" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, March 16, 2006 8:37 PM Subject: [WEX] Place names > Hi > I'm trying to locate a place called 'Nuke'. Many thanks for history of Felt Slob and how it got its name - interesting and adds that little extra background information to research Thank you Eileen
Hi all I have a convict tried at Wexford for burglary in 1820. He came from County Wexford but I do not know the place. I am wondering if there were several courts in County Wexford and if this indicates that he came from somewhere close to Wexford or whether everyone was tried there at that time? Has anyone any knowledge of the system then? Lyn in Brisbane Australia
Hi Lyn. I don't know how helpful this will be, but I found this site by 'googling' Wexford Ireland Courts'. There's a 'Heritage' link on the page that gives a history of courts. There are probably other sites available, too. http://www.courts.ie/courts.ie/Library3.nsf/pagecurrent/E290AD9B5D9D8D3C80256F33005B56D6?opendocument&p=100 If that link doesn't work, try www.courts.ie Terry in Michigan ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lyn Nunn" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, March 15, 2006 12:35 AM Subject: [WEX] trials in wexford 1820 > Hi all > > I have a convict tried at Wexford for burglary in 1820. Felt Slob is an area of the South Slob, Wexford. It got its name from the number of felt roofed haysheds erected on it. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, March 11, 2006 2:09 PM Subject: [WEX] Place name Felt Slob, Wexford > Dear readers > > I have just received a marriage certificate dated 1923 between Francis > Moore > and Kathleen Hughes nee Byrne which gives the groom's address as 'Felt > Slob' - I know North and South Slobs are now wildfowl reserves but > despite > surfing the web I cannot find any mention of 'Felt Slob' - would anyone > have any > idea where it is. > > thanking you > > > Eileen > > > > > > ==== WEXFORD Mailing List ==== > DO NOT post virus warnings, test messages, chain letters, political > announcements, current events, items for sale, personal messages, etc. > >
John Berry (my gr.gr.grandfather) was born in 1787, in the town of Newtonbarry, Wexford County. A marriage licence bond in the Diocese of Ossary indicates that John Berry married Etta Power in 1811; however, records in Canada indicate that their eldest son, Henry, was born in 1809, which suggests that John and Etta had been together prior to their marriage. In May 1817, John Berry, his wife and family boarded the brig Mary Ann at Wexford bound for a new life in Canada. Accompanying them was Etta's brother, William Power. The Gazette de Quebec recorded that the Mary Ann arrived there on August 14, 1817 with 126 settlers aboard after 84 days at sea. This family was part of a large continuous migration from Leinster to Upper Canada (now Ontario) following the end of theNapoleonic War. These immigrants were forwarded up the St. Lawrence River in smaller craft and eventually in Durham boats to Brockville thence by foot and oxcart over forty-four miles of rough road to the military settlement at Perth. Originally established to facilitate the settlement of demobilized soldiers from a number of Scottish regiments after the War of 1812, Perth Military Settlement served as a central processing and dispersal point for settlers in eastern Ontario during this period. Each family was issued tools, basic foodstuffs and assigned a fifty ! acre lot of land in one of the surrounding townships. John Berry had a brother William Berry (1800-1882), also a blacksmith, who emigrated from Wexford and settled in Cavan Township, Durham County, Ontario. He married Margaret Byrne (1801-1878) and they had seven children. These families were adherents of the Church of England and religious tensions were probably a factor in their decision to emigrate. John Berry's family told no stories of conflict in Ireland, but the family of William Berry claimed that their ancestor had been burned out and fled to the sea shore with nothing. This family settled in the most rabidly Protestant township in the province of Ontario which may have encouraged the telling of such stories. I am interested in any information about these families in Wexford prior to their emigration. Keith Sly Seeleys Bay, Ontario
My Peter and Joanna Doyle came from Enniscorthy in County Wexford, Ireland. Doe anyone have any access to church records there that might list their marriage and the births of their children before they came to the United States? Peter most likely had a brother named Owen. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Bill
