Hi Cara Still cleaning up emails from holidays and this one interested me. I would appreciate any information you might have on the 3 Evoys mentioned on you list. I don't know if you posted the RC list. If you did I missed it or might have accidentally erased it in my rush through these emails. I would appreciated anything you might have for Egan, Evoy or Stafford. Su, Wales Censuses often list the county of a persons birth even if they were born in Ireland. If you provide the person's name and have a general idea of when and/or where in Wales they lived, I would be gald to do a quick lookup for you. This way you might be able to at least narrow you ancestor's birthplace down to the county in Ireland where he was born. Hi Can I please pick your collective brains. My great grand father died in 3 Sept 1925 in Wales. Family legend has it that one of his sons took his body back home to Ireland for burial and that the son helped to dig the grave. What we don't know is the location of the grave. Has any one any idea how I can trace the cemetery that he would have been buried in. He was born in Arthurstown. regards Su
Su. What is the name of your relation. Maybe I can help. I have a C.D. with many Wexford Memorials. John .P.
Can anyone tell me how to tell if a Captain was in the Merchant Navy or something else? I have a Captain Patrick Stafford who was still working (from Wexford) in 1901 but was retired in 1911. All I know is that he used to bring back things from "far eastern" places. Incidentally he shot a crewmember on board ship for some sort of bad behaviour, but on return to Saltmills he was shunned by the locals for doing so. THREE generations of one Gorey family last week mourned the passing away of one of the town's most dedicated mothers, grandmothers and great-grandmothers, Annie Abott (nee Allen) of 4 Pearse Street. Thursday December 9th 1999- Gorey Guardian OBITUARY Annie passed away in Gorey District Hospital last Wednesday evening, only a few hours after being brought there after taking ill ather home. She was 87 years old. A quiet and humble woman throughout her life, family meant everything to Annie. Married to Thomas many years ago, she proved a devoted mother over the years that followed to their five daughters and two sons. When her own children grew up and had children of their own, she took great interest in this new generation of her family and in alltheir achievements, and this was again the case in later years when great-grandchildren began to arrive. Annie was also devoted to the Church, and attended Mass daily at St Michael's Church until very recently. She was also a regular visitor to St Michael's cemetery, where she lovingly tended the grave of her husband Thomas, whopredeceased her by some years, and other loved ones. On the social side, Annie was an active member of the Gorey Old Folks Club for many years and always thoroughly enjoyed thevarious club activities and outings. The great esteem in which she was held was evidenced by the large numbers which attended the removal of her remains from GoreyDistrict Hospital to St Michael's Church on Thursday evening, where they were received by Fr John O' Reilly. A large crowd also attended the Funeral Mass the following day, which was again celebrated by Fr O'Reilly. Burial followed in StMichael's cemetery. Annie is survived by five daughters, two sons, daughters-in-law, sons-in-law, 21 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and manyother relations, neighbours and friends. RIP.

Bill, try googling 'British Merchant Navy'. There are a lot of hits for it. Maybe one would be of help to you. I only looked at the following link: http://www.port.nmm.ac.uk/research/c1.html but there are many more. Also try googling 'SS Sirius'. This link shows a picture of the Sirius: http://www.geocities.com/swsodspickly/index2.html Good luck.
