I know this doesn't pertain to Wexford research, but...on the issue of heritage centers...my experience with the Derry heritage center run by Brian Mitchell is the opposite of my (and everyone else's) experience with Yola. His response was prompt, detailed, and overwhelmingly useful. The problem, even with Derry, remains that many parish priests will no longer give any access to or do any lookups in their records, even for a hefty donation, because "the center has them and you can go there." 1. Cyril, you go me. For my web address my keyboard must have been insert mode. My keyboard must have been manifesting what I was thinking (taking jibes at Yola). My "O'Briens of Wexford" site is at the following: http://www.fortunecity.com/millennium/malt/309/index.html 2. For those that are looking for easy and quick answers look at the Myshall in Co. Carlow which is near Bunclody, Wexford. You can view through the Mormons (LDS). The missing pages and difficult to read writing can give you pause as to what is being interpreted by anyone. The records are written across 2 pages. If one of them is missing the interpretation gets interesting. I think she meant the WEBSITE.
Isn't it time someone moved to close down their web site if they are taking fees but not doing anything about the search? I must agree with Cyril on Yola, we visited the centre exactly one year ago. The research centre itself was out of bounds to the public. They had one small room set aside for enquiries. There was a joiniing on fee of 15 euros which meant you got a number of forms to fill in. I had all the details with me, but was told I could not fill them in while I was there because of lack of space in the room. Luckily during our stay in Wexford I met some very kind people who helped me with my search, and for a handshake and many a thanks from me and my wife we got to find the places, and some records of my Doyle and Rossiter families in Nickaree,Duncormick and Shellbridge. Hi Larry, what's this: httpunecity.com/millennium/malt/309/index.html ??? Yola of course wouldn't be the only Heritage place to fail in it's objective of recording "ALL" Parish records for their County. Others have tried and failed also! One of the main problems of course is that they are not using people who are genuinely interested in Genealogy research. Maybe they should look at this problem before they think of the "Fast Buck". Rescourses are the main issue I think, lack of infrastructure, a bit like the whole of Ireland in it's Government also. slan Cyril Newsome Loch Garman... ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <
Barbara--Noone on list or at Yola ever answered any of my snail mail or email reuests as to whether or not the indexing project is still in progress etc...honestly, I've given up on the entire idea of the Family History Centers. Cyril, Thanks for the info - I should have know that there would be a problem with the dates and the availability of records! I still have hope that it might be possible to obtain information on their son, Jacob or any possible siblings in Wexford. The information I had obtained that indicated Jacob's parents as William and Mary, were from the LDS files, which I know are not the most reliable source, but the only one that gave me somewhere to start.
