    1. Re: [WESTALL] Westall of Wiltshire
    2. Hi Fred, Yes - I am descended from the Joseph Westall son of William Westell/Westall and Mary Moone. That is as far back as I traced the family. Do you have any info going back from them to the John Westall and Mary Aishman that you mentioned. I was always told by old time relatives that the family originated from Scotland around 1530 and the Westall/Westhalls were from the Aborcrombie or Leith clans of Scotland. I was also told there was a Westhall castle somewhere in Scotland. While doing my research I found the Westhall Castle in Aberdeenshire (a town named Ouyn) which was built about 1534 by the Aborcrombie clan. Any help you could give me from William Westall and Mary Moone would be greatly appreciated. By the way my branch of the Westall family came to the US in November 1853. Any help? 3. William Westall (b.1748, Trowbridge) married Mary Moone (b.1750, Trowbridge) on 4 Dec 1769 in TRowbridge). He was the son of William Westell (1720, Trowbridge) and Mary Sollick who married 25 Jul 1744 in Trowbridge. William was the son of John Westall (1696, Keevil) and Mary Aishman (1697), who married 30 Nov 1718 in Keevil near Trowbridge. There is a John Westall (b.1598, Keevil) who married Margaret Gaisford (b.1597, Keevil) on 26 Jun 1619 in Keevil. They had a son John Westall (bap. 3 Oct 1619, Keevil), who married Joann Gifferie (1620, Keevil) on 27 Nov 1641. In turn they had a son John Westall (bap. 13 Jul 1643, Keevil). So far I have not made the connection between this earlier line of Keevil Westall's and the one from John and Mary Aishman. Going the other way, I have traced the line of Trowbridge Westall's down to the modern time, via Thomas Trull Davis (b.1828) who married Caroline Westall (b.1833, Trowbridge) in 1851 in Bath Somerset. Their descendants are still in the Bath area. The Keevil Westall's seem to be the earliest recorded Westall's in Wiltshire so far. Unless someone knows better! I also have heard rumours about the Westall's originating in Scotland in the 16th century. I think you may have got further down that line than me. I have plenty of Scottish ancestors on my mother's side, so I don't feel too deprived if I don't find any Scottish Westall's! But it would be nice to tie the rest of the Keevil/Trwobridge Westall's in with the other Westall groups. It is of course possible it's a completely independent branch, but that doesn't feel likely to me.
