Fred, I see what you say, but I don't think so, somehow...sorry, but look at the age though, do you not think it could be, may be, is ??? possible that Richard son of Mark is a bit old...AND, if I dare, why not name their children with more family names, following tradition etc..Just thoughts [plus not wanting my own deductions to be wrong, of course !!!]. Now Fred I have one for you, please, In the 1891 in Ramsbury, census there is a John WESTALL with wife Sarah Ann and children Florence Elizabeth, Thomas, Henry, Charles and John James, in the PR's there is a Private Baptism of Joseph Eli, 16 Aug 1887 and not surprisingly a burial for him 27 Aug 1887. John is supposed to be 66 and Sarah Ann 44, in 1891. Do you have ay idea which John this could be and his wife's maiden name as I cannot find any marriage for them, or trace of him. I must add that I am still going through the PR's and census adding bits as I go. Many thanks, Bryl In a message dated 3/12/2009 12:49:00 P.M. I believe Richard Westall (bap. 23 Aug 1730, Ramsbury) married Jane Appleford (bap. 1 Apr 1739, Ramsbury) on 16 Oct 1760 in Ramsbury. Richard was the son of Mark Westall (bap. 15 Sep 1703, Ramsbury) and Sarah (marrriage date not known). Mark was the son of William Westall and Sarah Sylvester. This far back in time it remains just an hypothesis ... unless we are lucky and one or more turns out the Scottish! Beryl, He he ... I think you got me there! Probably you're right - but I could be too. ;0) This one will need a vote from everyone on WESTALL-L I think. I have the mysterious John Westall as John Wells Westall (bap. 11 Oct 1826 in St Peter and St Paul, Marlborough). The age of 66 given in the 1891 census would tie in with this. I also have his wife as Sarah Ann, but I don't know her maiden name yet (I can't find it in GRO). I believe the parents of this particular John Westall were John Westall (1795, Bishopstone) and Elizabeth New (1802, Marlborough). John snrs parents were Abraham Westall and Martha Jones. They married 21 Jul 1792 in Bishopstone. All speculative I'm afraid, but I try not to let the facts get in the way of a good theory! ;o) Fred -------------------------------------------------- From: <Bdm2918@aol.com> Sent: Thursday, March 12, 2009 6:32 PM To: <westall@rootsweb.com> Subject: Re: [WESTALL] Henry William Westall > Fred, > I see what you say, but I don't think so, somehow...sorry, but look at the > age though, do you not think it could be, may be, is ??? possible that > Richard > son of Mark is a bit old...AND, if I dare, why not name their children > with > more family names, following tradition etc..Just thoughts [plus not > wanting my > own deductions to be wrong, of course !!!]. > > Now Fred I have one for you, please, In the 1891 in Ramsbury, census there > is a John WESTALL with wife Sarah Ann and children Florence Elizabeth, > Thomas, Henry, Charles and John James, in the PR's there is a Private > Baptism of > Joseph Eli, 16 Aug 1887 and not surprisingly a burial for him 27 Aug > 1887. > > John is supposed to be 66 and Sarah Ann 44, in 1891. > > Do you have ay idea which John this could be and his wife's maiden name as > I > cannot find any marriage for them, or trace of him. > I must add that I am still going through the PR's and census adding bits > as > I go. > Many thanks, > Bryl > > In a message dated 3/12/2009 12:49:00 P.M. Beryl, According to FreeBMD I notice that a John Westall marrried a Sarah Cripps in Wantage in Sep qtr 1875 (2c, 485). Chaddleworth is not so far from Wantage so it might work?
