Eileen, I have now found the 1851, 1861 and 1871 Census for a Thomas Newman family. In 1871 Sarah (a widow) was living with her son Stephen and his family at 25 Axford. Could this be the right Thomas Newman and family. In the info I was given on this family it shows a son by the name of John Westall, not John Newman Westall. If this John was the son of Thomas Newman and Sarah nee Westall wouldn't his name have been John Westall Newman? If you look at the 1851 census it does show a Sarah Newman age 16 but not a Jane Newman. Sarah wife of Thomas had a sister by the name of Jane b 1796. Could the daughter of Thomas and Sarah Newman be Sarah Jane Newman b 1824? Who me confused?
