In 1901 census Amelia WESTALL, daughter of Thomas John WESTALL 1833 - 1913 and Mary, nee STACEY, is not living with her parents. I had assumed that she married as follows - Marriages Camberwell AVIS John, WESTALL Amelia Jun qtr 1893 Vol 1d p1367 In 1901 this family appears as follows - John Davis, Head, Mar, M, 28, General labourer, Worker, London, Newington Amelia Davis, Wife, Mar, F, 28, London, Boro Elizabeth Davis, Daur, F, 3, London, Bermondsey Martha Davis, Daur, F, 0, London, Bermondsey Address Bermondsey Class: RG13; Piece: 389; Folio: 66; Page: 15 No clear birth registration found for either Elizabeth or Martha Avis/Davis but further births are registered - Births Camberwell AVIS Florence M, MMN Westall Jun qtr 1913 Vol 1d p1501 AVIS Gertrude M, MMN Westall Mar qtr 1915 Vol 1d p1630 In 1911 census, Amelia is back with her parents again, shown as 38, unmarried, and no children! Does anyone know of another Amelia Westall who would fit the bill as wife of John AVIS/DAVIS? Or was Amelia possibly temporarily estranged from John? Thomas John and Mary WESTALL are shown as having had 7 children, 3 living, 4 dead. I can only trace 6 children in census, possibly another child born and died between censuses. I have also traced my grandparents in 1911, Thomas Brigden WESTALL (Thomas John's grandson) and Gertrude, nee HYDE, with my eldest aunt, Jeannnie Brigden WESTALL, aged 2. In later years Thomas Brigden WESTALL was a publican, but in 1911 he was a journalist, living/staying in Brighton. His father, Arthur WESTALL, had died in 1906, but his widow, remarried as Jane Bigmore FRARY, was found in Croydon. I can't wait for the site to be fully operational, the 1911 beta test site is no longer working, but if anyone has any insight into Amelia WESTALL, I would be grateful.
