    3. Hello all. At Bob's request I'm posting my Westall ancestry. My name is Christopher Westall Galbreath (jr) great-grandson of Christopher Westall (b. 3 NOV 1857 Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire - d. 29 NOV 1900 New Smyrna, Volusia Co., FL) He was the son of William Bury Westall (7 FEB 1834 Lancashire - 9 SEP 1903 Heathfield, Sussex) and Ellen Ann Wood (1832 Lancashire - 1861 England). Chris was 22 when he immigrated to America in DEC 1878 . Settling in New Smyrna, Florida where he married in 1880, Emma Jane Lowd (1862 - 1949) and engaged in Citrus farming.. They had two daughters, Ethel Lowd Westall (1883-1973) who married in 1907, Roy Otto Galbreath ( 1884-1959) and Lily Wood Westall (1890 - 1986) who married in 1914, Wilbur Aten Griffin (1891-1965). My knowledge of William Bury Westall's ancestry is largely taken from the work of Roy Westall in his "Life and Times of the Westall Family" . William and Ellen Ann had 3 children, John, Christopher and Ellen. When Ellen Ann died in 1861, he married her sister, Alicia "Alice" Wood (1828 - aft 1901) by whom he had 3 children, Lillian, Lincoln and Ethel. Lincoln (1866 - 1935) immigrated to America in 1905 where he married Swedish immigrant, Augusta Nelson (1860 - 1949). Both died in Long Beach, Los Angeles Co., CA. Both Ellen and Alicia Wood were the daughters of Christopher Wood (1801 Grindleton, Yorkshire - d. bet 1861-1871 Lancashire. Everything indicates these Westall's were of the Lancashire breed with no other connections that I know of. Regards, Chris W. Galbreath, Edgewater, FL

    3. Chris, I have Christopher Wood d Bet. Jul - Sep 1867 Lancaster, Lancashire, Eng. As per Free BMD? I am not sure this helps? William Bury Westall was quite a good author of several novels in the 1880's and 1890's. I have 6 or 8 of his novels printed in that era and they are really very good reading. Thank you Chris for the info on your ancestry. Chris' info is housed in "AAA Lancashire and the World, Westall" my data base. 3. Bob, Here's some info on Wm Bury Westall re: his writings. WILLIAM BURY WESTALL -William Bury Westall (February 7, 1834 - 1903) was an English novelist born in Old Accrington, Lancashire, England. Originally a businessman, he later became a journalist and also wrote a large number of novels, including The Old Factory, Strange Crimes, Her Ladyship's Secret, of which the Short Biographical Dictionary of English Literature from 1910 says "while healthy in tone and interesting, [they] have no literary distinction". William Bury Westall was born in Oswaldtwisle in 1834, his father being a cotton-mill owner. William went to Switzerland as the Swiss correspondent for 'The Times' (Britian's national newspaper published in London since 1788) , later editor of 'The Swiss Times'. He met revolutionaries in Russia and wrote many novels, the first being 'The Old Factory' which is based on his father's mill. So what was the Swiss Times? Various English language newspapers published in Geneva in the last three decades of the 19th century, included "The Swiss Times" in Geneva, probably established in the 1870's , then published every Friday, ... Some works by William Bury Westall: 1. (1877) - TALES AND LEGENDS OF SAXONY AND LUSATIA (1878) - IN TROPIC SEAS 2. (1882) - TALES AND TRADITIONS OF SWITZERLAND 3. (1885) - THE OLD FACTORY 4. (1885) - RED RYVINGTON 5. (1885) - RALPH NORBRECK'S TRUST 6. (1886) - THE PHANTOM CITY: A VOLCANIC ROMANCE 7. (1886) - TWO PINCHES OF SNUFF: A NOVEL 8. (1887) - HER TWO MILLIONS: THE STORY OF A FORTUNE 9. (1887) - CAPTAIN TRAFALGAR, A STORY OF THE MEXICAN GULF. by Andre Laurie, translated and edited from the French by William Westall 10. (1888) - NIGEL FORTESCUE OR; THE HUNTED MAN 11. (1890) - THE BLIND MUSICIAN by Vladimir Korolenko translation from the Russian by William William Westall and Sergius Stepniak 12. (1890) - STRANGE CRIMES 13. (1891) - ROY THE ROYALIST 14. (1892) - ROY OF ROY'S COURT (2 vols.) 15. (1892) - THE PRINCES OF PEELE 16. (1892) - MR. FORTESCUE: AN ANDEAN ROMANCE. 17. (1894) - FOR HONOUR AND LIFE 18. (1894) - FOR HUMOUR AND LIFE: A TALE OF TERROR 19. (1897) - WITH THE RED EAGLE 20. (1900) - A QUEER RACE: THE STORY OF A STRANGE PEOPLE 21. (1904) - A VERY QUEER BUSINESS & OTHER STORIES 26. (1901) - HER LADYSHIPS SECRET 27. (1895) - THE SONS OF BELIAL 28. (1899) - AS A MAN SOWS 29. (1902) - THE OLD BANK 30. (1903) - DR. WYNNE'S REVENGE 31. (1892) - TRUST MONEY 32. (1897) - A WOMAN TEMPTED HIM (A Serial story) 33. (1899) - A RED BRIDAL 34. (1899) - BEN CLOUGH 35. (1900) - AS LUCK WOULD HAVE IT Re: Christopher Wood, died Jul-Sep Qtr 1867 Lancashire. Chris Westall kept a daily journal, I have a few of them, by no means a complete "set". Letters to and from England are frequently to and from an "Uncle Chris Wood" this would be the William Christopher Wood b. 1834, brother of Alicia and Ellen .... He must have died sometime after 1901 as that is the last census I find him in. I haven't fleshed out much on the Wood genealogy, tho' my uncle and his son were named Lawrence Wood Galbreath. .
