    3. Many thanks, Bob. It was great to receive confirmation that all the children survived the journey. I don't know what became of George junr or Ebenezer subsequently, as I've not found them in the US Census of 1880. The IGI has a marriage in 1861 between Mary Jane CANNING [the eldest daughter] and Cuthbert William RAIN, but I've not found them in the 1880 index although they are recorded buried at Pottawattamie in 1923 and 1918 respectively. Only one child has been attributed to them: Charles Franklin RAIN born c1871 at Pottawattamie. Kind regards. 3. Dorothy, So far I have not been able to come up with George Jr. or Ebenezer either. Also Cuthbert William Rain and Mary Jane had a total of 3 children as noted in the 1900 Fedederal census. In 1900 only Charles F. was living. Their eldest was Frederick b ca. 1863. What I have been able to come up with to date follows: Bob Descendants of George Canning Generation No. 1 1. GEORGE1 CANNING was born 1824 in Eng. He married MARY ANN WESTELL 1842 in Newbury, Berkshire, Eng, daughter of WILLIAM WESTALL and SARAH LEWIS. The LDS membership register has a note that George was a Church Elder and they emigrated in 1849 [no destination recorded]. Thanks to Ancestry's extension of 'freebie' access to Immigration Records [expiring 31 December] I found the family on the New Orleans Passenger list of the James Pennell Ship which left Liverpool Oct 1849. From the names and recorded ages of the children I was able to confirm that I had the right family via their Newbury Registration District birth references in FreeBMD. George & Mary A.CANNING appear with 8 of their children [including Alice who was only 9 months old when they embarked] in the 1880 US Census at Council Bluffs, Pottawattamie, Iowa.
