Fred, I have also looked at the Richard and William Wastell artists. You and I talked before about William Wastell and Agatha Whalley of London, as to whether he was William Westall b. 1796 of Hungerford (because Agatha lived in 1881 in Cookham, Berks., next door to a John Westell/Wastell, who turned out to be this William's cousin). I think it was a coincidence. I subsequently was given the death notice of William Wastell of Hoxton. He was born in 1790. I do not think he is from the Berks. family, I think he's from my Wastells of Bethnal Green. But it's difficult to prove. William Cobbett, so prominent in stirring up the riots we were speaking of—he spent time in his teens working for Agatha's great-grandfather the Rev. James Barclay, who let him use his library. He possibly got his idea to become a journalist while there (he was a farmer's son, whose father taught him to read). Again, a small world.
