Hi Can anyone tell me exactly where Houghton By Settle is? It is mentioned on the IGI at www.familysearch.org . Is it the name of a parish, or part of another parish? Researching COOK, LEAK(E), & WATSON in the Giggleswick area, before 1830. Regards Lyn Wolf Australia

A number of websites appear and there is a full description of the place at this one..... http://www.thornber.net/famhist/htmlfiles/houghton.html -- Roy Stockdill Editor, Journal of One-Name Studies Guild of One-Name Studies website: www.one-name.org Newbies' Guide to Genealogy & Family History: www.genuki.org.uk/gs/Newbie.html "There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about." Thankyou Roy and Jean for the information. As there are no marriages mentioned for the chapel, where would they most likely have occurred? regards Lyn ----- Original Message ----- From: "Roy Stockdill" <roy.stockdill@btinternet.com> To: <west-riding@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, October 13, 2007 7:32 PM Subject: Re: [WRY] Where is "Houghton By Settle"? > From: "Lyn Wolf" <lawolf@dodo.com.au> > >> Can anyone tell me exactly where Houghton By Settle is? As Houghton is a chapel of ease for Gisburn would suggest Gisburn and the IGI has both Cooke and Watson marr. Do you know of the Hugh Wallis site http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers.htm# PageTitle from which you can go straight to the batch numbers for the place you want. Jean
