Hello again listers As my first posting to this list on 3 Oct proved rather controversial, I am a bit nervous about another posting .....but here goes. Responses from this list have helped me to eliminate several parishes in my search for PICK baptisms 1795-1801. It would seem that PICK families lived around this time in Wetherby and Tadcaster but the parish records for both appear to be missing from the IGI. Does any kind person have easy access to the baptism records for Tadcaster St Mary and/or Wetherby CofE Chapelry. If so I would be very grateful for information on any PICK baptisms in either "parish" between 1795 and 1801. My specific interest is in Harriet PICK born approx 1797 but other PICK baptisms ( and infant burials) would be of help too. If anyone on this list is interested in Hampshire look ups I may be able to help. Thanks Ian L
Hi Ian, Just to enlighten you a little as I think this may help with your problem. Many Bishops in Yorkshire refused to allow the LDS access to their Parish Registers so many were NOT filmed by them until quite recently, and many have yet to be filmed. Once they have been filmed they then have to be indexed to be placed on the IGI before you or I can do the research from the comfort of our own home. This is all done by volunteers. The YAS which I gave you the URL for in other e-mails have indexed some Parish Registers but not all by a long shot. I believe Wetherby & Tadcaster would now come under Leeds Family History Society so you can check with them if they have CD's. but they will only be indexes I am sure. Just checked Tadcaster, their registers are at the Borthwick. I also spotted this on Genuki for Wetherby which comes under Spofforth & the records are deposited at the YAS in Leeds. Transcripts and Indexes: 1.. CMB 1599-1837; TI; YAS 2.. M 1599-1837; TI; BMI; SOG, YCL 3.. M 1653-1680; MSTNI; LYMI; SOG . The only other way you are going to get the full entry is if they have been filmed by the LDS and you can read them for yourself at the nearest Family History Center to where you live. The Bishops Transcripts with be at the Borthwick in York. You did not cause a problem with your last question that's how you learn. I still don't think you have a grip on where the material is for Yorkshire and that's why you are floundering. I think you need to find out exactly where the registers are so then you will know how easy or difficult it is for someone to fulfil your request. Parish Register depositories in Yorkshire. http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/Misc/CBW/YPRsAbbreviations.html Please check the Hugh Wallis Site as both Wetherby & Tadcaster have been filmed but maybe not for the dates you want. If you check the LDS Library out on the LDS Site you will see exactly what has been filmed. I am always amazed that folks don't use this site more. Living in Canada I don't know where I would be without it. Certainly not doing family history if I had to rely on someone else to search all the time for me....... That the fun part. Yorkshire has a way to go to catch up on some counties but its a far better than it was 10 years ago. Kindest regards. Elaine in Ottawa.
