GERRARD / GERARD can be a surname from the northeast of Scotland (Aberdour ABN seems to be a source with BAIN not far away either) although EVANS errs on the Welsh side. I currently looking for birth and parentage of William GERRARD b 1750-1760 who married Isobel CHALMERS in Boyndie BAN. (a) You might like to look to the Aberdeenshire List - there is Gerrard thread going on at this very moment (b) If you do trace back there or thereabouts, let me know! Hi Howard, Roy and others, Thanks for helping with info in finding Frederic Henry EVANS. I have sent an email to the Haworth Masonic lodge in the hope that FHE'S father, William Evans was a member of the lodge about 1850- 60's, since my grandfather and his brother were members in NZ. Unfortunately I have had no reply. I will check out William Gerrard Evans, but I don't expect it is my one. I have seen GERRARDS in Scotland, but have no way of connecting them to Isabella GERARD. I contacted a descendant of FHE first marriage and she said the Gerard's' escaped from France during the last French revolution, I which I presume was in the late 1790's. Does this make the Gerard's Huguenots? I have a photo taken about the 1870's of FHE and an old lady whom I presume to be his grandmother. Her style of clothing may give some indication the person she was, that is, if she was French, but I have no skills in determining this. I am quite happy to send an image by email if anyone is interested. Also, is spelling Frederic without the (k) a continental practise more than an English one?
