Hello list, Is there anyone out there researching SHARKER or more probably SHARKEY from Bradford? I am trying to help a contact in France, Jean Claude, who has only a little English. The information from his family is that his grandfather was Vincent SHARKER from Bradford, who landed at Rouen in 1914 with the British Army, where he met Jean Claude's grandmother... and in 1916 his mother was born. Vincent was also said to have fought in the Boer War. We now think Vincent SHARKER was in fact born Fenton SHARKEY at Bradford in 1876, son of Luke and Anne SHARKEY, from Ireland. By 1891 he had adopted the name Vincent (and was in Armley prison on census night). In 1903 he married Margaret MCDERMOTT, they had at least one child, Thomas, and I think Margaret died in 1913. I have found the family on the various censuses, the relevant BMDs up till Vincent's death in 1920, and his burial on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission site. What Jean Claude is really interested to know is whether any of Vincent's descendants in England are aware of their 'French connection'. So, if anyone has any of these SHARKEYs in their tree, we would love to hear from you. Joe
