This may have been discussed before but does anyone know if there are advantages or disadvantages to request a birth certificate from the local Registry Office vs the General Registry Office. I have found my grandfather's birth record as well as marriage record in the Yorkshire area so they would be available through the Leeds Registry but I am wondering if someone could comment on this. Thank you kindly. Carol Ann Rigg (Canada)
Hi Carol, It depends on the local office. Some are more obliging than others. It depends how busy they are, I suppose. I have bought my certificates from the GRO online recently and they always come within a week, but I don't know what they are like at sending abroad. Hello Carol, I order my certs. from the GRO and when I call them you can choose to receive them within a week or choose a cheaper 8 ponds and that takes about two weeks. I usually order the 8 ponds order. I live in Australia. Carol, I recently received a copy of my gr-grandparent's marriage certificate from the Leeds Registry Office. I live in the U.S. and mailed the form to them. I received the certificate in just under three weeks. I already had a copy from the GRO and the main reason I wanted the one from the local office was to compare my gr-grandfather's signature with the signature on naturalization papers I had sent for to see if they matched and thereby verify I had the correct papers (they matched!).
