From: "Brenda" <ellis-b@sky.com> > Hello > We all know what Marjorie means, so does it matter? > Margaret> Actually, yes, it does, at least if you aspire to be a serious family historian, which I trust everyone taking up the subject is aiming for. If people cannot get the terminology correct, then they are going to make mistakes in storing their records. Sloppiness in minor detail may well lead to sloppiness in major detail eventually. Would you sanction the spelling of Yorkshire as YORKSHARE or YORKSHERE? Of course, you wouldn't, so let's get it right and call it a Register Office, not Registry. -- Roy Stockdill Editor, Journal of One-Name Studies Guild of One-Name Studies website: www.one-name.org Newbies' Guide to Genealogy & Family History: www.genuki.org.uk/gs/Newbie.html "There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about."
