She is the expert on Petyts and Moons at Storithes and Bolton Abbey. I happen to know because another prominent and frequent family in the same area were the DEMAIN(E)s, with whom I am connected. My gt-uncle by marriage, Hanson Demaine, was the Town Clerk of Pudsey 1929-36. Before that he was a solicitor in Bradford and I have traced his ancestors to Storithes and Bolton Abbey. I believe from Angela that the Petyts, Moons and Demaines intermarried. -- Roy Stockdill Editor, Journal of One-Name Studies Guild of One-Name Studies website: www.one-name.org Newbies' Guide to Genealogy & Family History: www.genuki.org.uk/gs/Newbie.html "There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about." I am interested in the name Petyt as my grandmother came from a Berkshire family called Pettitt. I am assuming that they are from the same source? Does anyone know where they originally came from? We have always assumed that the name was French in origin but from the correspondence from all of you it sounds as if they go back futher than I thought. If anyone is interested I have an old hand-drawn family tree for the Pettit's that was handed down to me and goes back to 1580.
