If you can find an archivist contact at the religious order of the Sisters of the Cross and Passion, based in Bolton Lancs, they may have some records of Eldon Place. It's not a very big street, and they founded a school for Catholic girls there. I don't know just when but would guess about 1920: it was called St Joseph's College and moved to a location in Cunliffe Road, Manningham before about 1950. It was my school: I was vice-Captain of Eldon House in the early 1960s. The thing is, I have no idea what happened to their buildings in Eldon Place, and one might have been converted (ha!) into your BWH. good luck Maggie >> I am trying to find information on the Bradford Women's Home which was situated in Eldon Place, Bradford. >> Was this a home for the genteel, the ill, a retirement home or for women, who for some reason or other, were just unable to look after themselves? >> Did they have to pay or was it council run? >> The time I am asking about is the 1960/70's.
Hello Maggie Many thanks for your reply. I hadn't realised that St Joseph's College used to be in Eldon Place. I always remember it as being in Cunliffe Road. Some of my paternal cousins attended that school, maybe at the same time as you. The females in my father's family were brought up as Catholics whilst the males [including my father] were brought up as protestants. I will try the Sisters tomorrow and see if they have any ideas, maybe they ran the home. The relative who died in this home was a Wesleyan so don't know if this made a difference. Thank you for your help.
