Hi Barbara I think you'll find the Quaker birth indices for Yorkshire at the Brotherton archives in Leeds* as suggested by Arthur, as well as Quaker House in London*, where copies of the full registers are kept - mostly microfiche or film. For your information, Quakers did not have their children baptised - however the births were recorded at the "monthly" meetings at the local Friends meeting place of which there are many in Yorkshire. If Gordon Dyson is correct about Thorne parish church and the baptism, then your Rowntree is certainly not a Quaker. Rowntrees are very famous Quakers in Yorkshire - associated with chocolate and confectionery in York. I have a Rowntree Quaker "connection" in my family ancestors, a Maria Rowntree married in Scarborough in 1868. If your Edward Casson Rowntree later marries in a church or chapel then it is probably more proof, that he was not a Quaker.
