Greetings from Australia, This is my 1st posting, having just joined the list. I recently obtained a marriage certificate from the GRO of a Charlotte SHEPHERD,21, father David (gardner) to a Joshua BATTY,24, father James (farmer). Married by licence on 17th Apr, 1854, Sheffield. This very date and place are identical to that recorded by George and Charlotte SHEPHARD (sic), who came to Rockley, near Bathurst, N.S.W. Australia, on their death certificates and some of the birth certificates of their children. I have never been able to find George SHEPHARD on the 1841 or 1851 Census (b. abt 1829) (but his wife(?) Charlotte says that he was b. Yorkshire (no town mentioned) to a James SHEPHARD, Farmer and a Sarah WINTERBOTTOM. I have been unable to find a marriage for them. Charlotte's age varies on every certificate I've purchased, but her DOB would be between 1832-1836, Derbyshire(no town mentioned.) Nor does she know her parents names, but says that her father was a Farmer. She also says that her surname was SHEPHARD. (There is no marriage in Sheffield of 2 SHEPHARDs.) Would there be anyone researching these families, or might be able to help me, please? I have just ordered the DC of Joshua BATTY, 1882 in Parramatta, N.S.W. and the birth certificates of the 2 eldest BATTY daughters: Hannah Elizabeth, 1855, Wortley and Sarah Ann, 1857, Eccleshall Bierlow. Best wishes, Carolyn in Bathurst. N.S.W.
