    3. Hi, St. Luke's and they seem to have lost their records for 1918/1922 or so because I have not been able to access them, my mother was there in 1920-1923. St. Catherine's was a Mother and Babies Home but my Aunt born 1918 was taken there and adopted from there in 1920-1923 period. I have had no luck in obtaining records from there either. On one hand the adoption Act didn't come in until 1927 so it is hard to get records but on the other it means you can get their original birth certificates. I find the BDM details in the 1900s quite useful. They can be accessed on line. The church's seem to have been active in adoptions and relatives also took children in. Jean in S. Australia. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jean Belfitt" <jeanbelfitt@tiscali.co.uk> To: <WEST-RIDING@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, November 10, 2007 5:21 AM Subject: [WRY] Orphanages, Huddersfield > Hi everyone > > I'm looking for orphanage records for the Huddersfield area open in > 1918/19. > I am looking for LEWIS children, Benjamin aged 6 and his sister Gertrude > aged about 8.
