I am at a loss on where to look next so I thought I would turn to this wonderful group for some direction. My great grandmother Emma SCUFFIN, born in 1863 in Bacton, Suffolk married Thomas Dixon in 1882 and then William J. SCUFFIN in 1908 in Leeds. She shows up living as Mrs. E. SCUFFIN, widow of William J., in Montreal, Canada from 1923 to 1926. Her son-in-law Bertie RIGG (my grandfather), having lived most of his life in Yorkshire, crosses the Atlantic from Glasgow (where he had been living for a few years) on the Metagama in 1923 and gives his destination as 19 Aird Avenue, Montreal, Canada address of his mother-in-law Mrs. E. SCUFFIN. The information on Bertie's crossing, I found directly from the Canadian Archives but I knew he had arrived in 1923 which made the search easier. Bertie was married to Minnie Harriet Dixon, daughter of Emma from her first marriage to Thomas Dixon. I have a paid subscription to Find My Past and do not get results for Emma SCUFFIN on any ship coming to Canada. As she married in Leeds in 1908 and is living in Canada in 1923, those are the years I concentrated on. Also, as she lists herself as widow, I have searched the death records from 1908 to 1923 and no death entry for William J. SCUFFIN comes up. Any help or suggestion on what to do next would be greatly appreciated. Thank you kindly. Carol Ann Rigg
Is there anything to suggest that he was a traveller or something similar. Maybe he passed away in Scotland or overseas. Whilst I don't subscribe to FMP, I noticed a W R Scuffins left Liverpool in 1912 and a female Scuffins left Liverpool for Canada in 1912 Good Luck.
