His birth was registered at Skipton in the Sep quarter of 1847, vol 23 page 601 and he married MARY ELLEN ADAMS at Bradford in the Sep quarter of 1867, vol 9b page 82 (data from FreeBMD) In the census of 1881 they were living at 493 Wakefield Road, Bowling, Bradford, and Hiram was a yarn dyer. His wife Mary E Pearson is shown as being NINE years older than him, since he was 33 and she 42. Her birth place is given as Saddleworth, which is why you possibly thought Hiram was born there. They had children, as follows..... Robert, 11 Zillah, 8 Albert Henry, 3 All born at Bradford. I took this from the 1881 CDs but it's also online at www.familysearch.org In the 1861 census (at Findmypast, the only source I used which is a subscription website) Hiram was aged 13 and living at Carlton in the Skipton RD. He is again shown as being born at Skipton and was working as a cotton spinner. The household was as follows..... Hezekiah SWIRE, head, aged 27, Stone Mason, born Carlton Isabella Swire, wife, 23, born Skipton James Swire, Son ,1 b Carlton, Isabella PEARSON, Mother In Law Married, 52 House Keeper b Greenhow Hill Robert Pearson, Son, 17, warehouseman, b Skipton, Hiram Pearson, Son, 13, Cotton Spinner, b Skipton Thomas Simpson, Lodger Married, 44, Quarryman, b Greenhow Hill Clearly, there is something slightly odd about these relationships and ages! According to FreeBMD, Hezekiah Swire married Isabella Pearson at Skipton RD in the Sep quarter of 1859. It would seem to me, therefore, that Robert and Hiram were Isabella's brothers and brothers-in-law to Hezekiah. They couldn't possibly have been his sons, but it seems likely the enumerator was indicating that they were the sons of Isabella Pearson, the mother-in-law. In the 1851 census Hiram was aged 3 and the family were living in High Street, Skipton...... Robert Pearson, head, 46, wool comber, born Skipton Isabella Pearson, wife, 39, b Greenhow Hill Jane Pearson, dau, 17, cotton weaver, b Skipton James Pearson, son, 15, cotton carder, b Skipton Isabella Pearson, dau, 13, cotton-something, b Skipton Robert Pearson, son, 6, scholar, b Skipton Hiram Pearson, son, 3, scholar, b Skipton I don't think I can do much more, so over to you..... -- Roy Stockdill Editor, Journal of One-Name Studies Guild of One-Name Studies website: www.one-name.org Newbies' Guide to Genealogy & Family History: www.genuki.org.uk/gs/Newbie.html "There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about." I believe I got your family tree back another generation. However, I cannot help with your latest query unless you SPELL OUT what you want to know and what you have done so far yourself! This is what I have been trying to impress upon you, Carol. No-one can help if you just give us a vague name. We need to know more details. I can tell you, if it's any help, that in the 1881 census of Britain there were a total of 433 CORNALLs, 275 of them - well over half - in Lancashire, so it is clearly a surname of that county. The epicentre of the name appears to have been Prestonh (90 entries) and Fylde (89 entries) which includes Blackpool. The surname dictionaries say it is common in Lancashire, deriving from a lost place of the name. However, I don't know if I can help until you until you post some information. I am not a mind reader! Perhaps I could re-emphasise yet again to other listers, especially newcomers to family history, that if we old hands and professionals are to help you we need to KNOW the details of WHO, WHERE, WHEN, what you have already done and what you want to know. It is not very helpful just to chuck out a surname and ask if anyone has any connections to it, since you will get a lot of replies that are simply irrelevant and people's time will be wasted in responding. Now, please post exactly who your Cornalls were, what you know about them already and what you want to know. -- Roy Stockdill Editor, Journal of One-Name Studies Guild of One-Name Studies website: www.one-name.org Newbies' Guide to Genealogy & Family History: www.genuki.org.uk/gs/Newbie.html "There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about." Roy, I thought your PEARSON reply was on the top side of generous! to put so much work into finding all that data ...wow, as they say. I don't have any PEARSONs in my line, but now I wish I did :) And a big lesson to those of us asking for help to say what we want to know, and what sources we have tried already. Meanwhile, shouldn't Carol's query be on a Lancashire list? It will likely elicit more help there than on a Yorkshire list. Unless? Roy is still in miracle-working mood.
