Has anyone come across this individual in their family tree/research? He was also known as CHARLEY WOODS (1871 Census-Orphan, age 7 and living with John RIPLEY). He later changed his name to CHARLES EDWARD BARTON in order to re-enlist in the East Kent Regiment in 1892 (after he deserted the Yorkshire Regiment). He was of mixed-race and by all accounts quite a character in the Stanningley and Pudsey area of Leeds.
