I think I'm the "other person" that Jenny mentions below, so I'll add a bit more on my HIRST line and some of their connections. My ancestor Richard HIRST had the good sense to die in a parish using Dade registers, and his burial entry (1806) names his father as Jonathan Hirst of Owston, Farmer. His age at burial and his father's relatively uncommon forename are consistent with the baptism found in 1728 in Campsall, which is adjacent to Owston. This evidence of movement from Campsall to Owston, together with Godfrey's mention of Richard in his will, also makes it more likely that the Jonathan father of Richard (1728) and the Jonathan father of Godfrey (1735/36) are one and the same. Assuming there is just one Jonathan, he had two other children who survived to adulthood: Mary, who married Thomas WILSON in Darrington in 1746 - he was later a farmer in Badsworth; and Sarah, who married Roger (or Robert) HEPTONSTALL, a tanner of Ackworth. Jonathan and his wife Mary (surname unknown) are buried in Burghwallis, with their daughter Sarah. My 5x ggf Richard HIRST (1728-1806) married Elisabeth MACHIN in 1759; of 9 children I only know of one who married and had descendants - my ancestor John (1774-1841). This John married Hannah WHITAKER in 1806. Their daughter Elisabeth married James MacKENZIE, a former soldier from Falkirk who was working as a servant of the Rector of Badsworth. John and Hannah's son Richard (1807-1899) married Mary WHEATLEY (from Ulleskelf). They ended up in Meltham Mills and had 12 children and numerous further descendants. One of the 12 children was my gggf John HIRST (1832-1871), who married Ann WILKINSON (from Morton, Bingley); their children were my ggm Elizabeth (who married John STOW of Bradford), and twins Alfred and Watson, who both became schoolmasters - Alfred in Marsden (he married Ellen Louisa BAMFORD) and Watson in York (he married Louisa SCOTT). I'd be interested to hear if anyone spots a connection among those names.
