Hi Maggie, Not everyone did this but it seems to me to have been very common for young mothers to go home to their own mother for the arrival of their first babies - then subsequent children usually born in the new home area. Just a thought that your couple could have done that. My g-grandmother was born in St Bees because her mother's mother lived there - but the rest of the family was born in Upper or Nether Poppleton.
