    1. [WRY] IGI differs from parish record
    2. One of my ancestors is a John Jagger from Northowram, Halifax. All I really know is that he was the father of William Jagger baptised at Coley 31 October 1779. Looking at the the CD of Halifax St John's marriages (the only church permitted to marry couples in this time and place), I found a marriage of John Jagger to Lydia Longbottom on 5 April 1779. She seems the best candidate but there are others earlier, and there are even more for other children born to a John Jagger in the following 24 years (six in all!!). Lydia was however named as the mother of the late-born Samuel in 1803. My problem is that many researchers have used the IGI rather than the parish records (even the transcribed ones I worked from), and are firmly convinced that the mother of Abraham born to a John Jagger 26 Feb 1784 was Sarah Ambler, married 22 April 1783. But they seem to be basing this conviction on the fact that this is the only applicable marriage to a John Jagger to appear in the IGI. I did have Abraham as a brother to my William, but if he's a son of Sarah, this won't work. I have only found one child positively born to a John and Sarah Jagger, and that was a baptism at the South Parade Wesleyan in the centre of Halifax, in 1804, which has a touch of being rather far from Coley/Northowram where everyone else was baptised. I shall continue to try to solve the mystery of which child belonged to which mother (but feel free to dive in!), but my question is really why does the IGI, which has large batches for Halifax St Johns, not include Lydia's marriage? I've also checked the Pilot search section of the Familysearch website, but no joy. puzzled Maggie
