    3. Hi Maggie. The film notes for the LDS films of the BTs for the parish of Halifax, films which also incudes other parishes, in their library catalogue, shows that some pages are missing. Those missing pages could be in any of the parishes included in the film besides Halifax St. John's. Maybe the page containing 5th April 1779 and the marriage of John Jagger to Lydia Longbottom is one of those pages that are missing and therefore could not be included in the IGI. The films were made at the Borthwick Institute York according to the film notes. As I understand it, BTs were not always kept in the same way that the PRs were kept and there are quite a lot of BTs missing where the original PRs survive. Is the CD of the Halifax St. John's marriages that you have, made from the Parish Registers or from the Bishop's transcripts? That might explain the difference between what you have found on the CD and what you cannot find in the IGI. Are you sure the CD does not also include the calling of Banns in St. John's Halifax, not only Banns for the marriages that took place in that church but also those Banns for marriages which took place elsewhere? You would find this sort of thing if the CD does include marriage banns, where one of the parties to the marriage was from Halifax and the other party from another parish. You sometimes find in the IGI that a marriage bann has been included as if it was the actual marriage date, as well as then finding the marriage at a later date in another parish, which can be confusing. At the end of the day it is always best to check out things found in any Index or Transcript against the original source that the index or transcript was made from. Maybe you could contact the archive holding the records, that were used for the transcript you have on CD, to let you have a copy of the marriage entry for John jagger to Lydia Longbottom. The CD should say where the original source for the transcript is held I would think. West Yorkshire BTs are not yet included in the Pilot Record Search. The only part of Yorkshire that does appear is part of North Yorkshire, the part that came into the Diocese of the Bishop of Durham and then that bit of Yorkshire is not completely covered. There are parishes in County Durham whose BTs do not appear in the Pilot Record Search, whether those BTs have not survived or have yet to be included I do not know. This resource is an ongoing project by the LDS and recently Norfolk and Warwickshire have been added to it so keep an eye on the content of this useful resource in case they add WRY parishes in the near future. 3. A few years ago I spent many hours along with my relatives and friends trying to find birth/baptism records one of my DENTONs from Mirfield. I had a IGI transcript record for his marriage to a girl in town and plenty of girls in town with the right very common name and age but nothing for him. It drove me nuts trying to find his parents, lots of potential brothers and sisters but no luck finding a baptism record. Years later somebody sent me some photocopies of the original marriage records they had received somehow. Clearly written in the book were the words after the marriage "of riper years" Mystery solved. What we had assumed was a typical 20's something pair turned out to be a widow and widower in their 60's on their second marriage. That DENTON I did have! And all the "brothers and sisters" in town where his grown children and his bride was using her married name so she was of course not listed under that name in any birth/baptism records . A simple assumption that we were looking at a first marriage led many of us astray. I can't tell you how many times the IGI has the famed Rev Richard Denton ( most U.S. Dentons are descended from him) married to Sarah Hall of Mirfield. Yes there were Richard and Sarah Denton in Mirfield at that time but not the same ones. A famous person and somebody assumes there was only one person of that name in all of Yorkshire and . . . Sigh! As experts tell you. Get 3 different pieces of ID for each person on your tree. And even then you will find most of your relatives lied/misspoke or were completely confused as to who they were, when, where and why. But that's what makes genealogy fun. Arguing over the errors. I always have a good laugh when I see somebody seriously post a family tree that goes all the way back to Adam and Eve and "Hagar The Horrible".
