Just to let those who have very kindly helped me in this matter, that the births certs arrived today and one of them does match the date of birth shown on the deaths indexes referred to below. Parents were as Roy Stockdill suggested - Frank WHITE & Nellie LEE and father's occupation is given as "Hotel Chef", so this would fit also. This means I am now confident I have the correct couple and can now proceed back another generation to try and find the reputed connection! Thank you all so much for your help. The GRO deaths indexes shows he died in the Leeds Reg. district and gives his date of birth as 27 April 1927. Therefore, if one of the birth certs you have also gives this date of birth, you could probably safely assume it to be one and the same person, as I doubt the chances of two people with exactly the same name and date of birth in the same area is very likely!

As a matter of interest, who was the other birth certificate for, since I am quite certain I could only find the entry which appears to be the correct one? If Leeds Register Office have misled you into thinking there were two, then I would be tempted to ask for my money back for the wrong one! BTW, there was a story in today's Daily Mail about Marco Pierre White.
