Hi Lefayre, There is a Hazelhurst near Ashton under Lyne, which is close to the Yorkshire border but in Lancashire now. Maybe it was part of Yorkshire in the 1500's . Some of my ancestors from Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, moved to Hazelhurst in the 1800's. I've been to see it but there are lots of modern houses there now, plus a council estate. Another "Must See" site is genuki http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS Searching there for Heslehurst showed up just one reference in the Pickering Board of Guardians. I would expect Hazelhurst or Hazlehurst to be the current spelling (10 and 6 matches respectively) although spellings can change significantly with time. Does your document give any more context? Personally the nearest I can get to such a place is Hazelhead which is between Hepworth and Langsett on the A616 south of Huddersfield (where Hepworth Iron used to be - maybe still are - and there's a big wind farm nearby now). What makes you think it is West Riding? - anything that would speak of adjacent towns etc? Google Maps give quite a few locations of the name Hazlehurst (not necessarily the place) near Doncaster and Rotherham. Sorry not to be of more help. >Maggie > > > > > > >-----Original Message----- >From: Kate Burhouse <[email protected]> >To: [email protected] >Sent: Sat, 30 Jan 2010 7:55 >Subject: Re: [WRY] Heslehurst > > >Hi Lefayre > >It's useful to check the list archive if you aren't sure if a post appeared >If you go here... http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/ and use the 'Find a >Mailing List' to search for West-riding.
