    3. Hi, On E-bay there’s an offer of 102 Yorkshire Parish Registers on 3 CDs for £10. Don’t be tempted, they’re all free to download here (be safe, copy & paste it) http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=parish%20register%20yorkshire <http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=parish%20register%20yorkshire&sort= -publicdate> &sort=-publicdate A few weeks ago I listed the parishes and volumes that were then available; the list is still growing and I’m still monitoring it and when the uploading stops I’ll post a revised list. In the meanwhile, I’ve been trying to find a list of the parish registers that were published in book form by the Yorkshire Archaeological Society (aka Parish Register Society) in the late 1800s/early 1900s, so that I’ll know when the on-line listing is complete. Can anyone send me a list or name a web site that contains a list? Thanks, Dom. (West-Riding is the only Yorkshire mailing list I belong to; please forward the web link to any other list you think might find it useful)

    2. Hi David, I don't think the lists are on a website, but if you are close to London, the National Archives at Kew have what seems to be a full set of the books published by the YAS. cheers Maggie -----Original Message----- From: David O'Malley <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Wed, 3 Feb 2010 0:26 Subject: [WRY] Free on-line parish registers - update Hi, On E-bay there’s an offer of 102 Yorkshire Parish Registers on 3 CDs for £10. 1. [WRY] Free on-line parish registers - Finding the info.

    3. Hi, I've been asked, off-list, how to find individual parishes; read on. The site is very poorly indexed with some of the search results (the list that appears) containing neither the name of the parish nor the 'Yorkshire Parish Register Society' volume number. This seems to be being rectified as all the most recent 30 or 40 uploads have one or the other and are repeats of already uploaded volumes. Yesterdays 129 search results actually cover only 73 YPRS volumes. To find an individual parish, in the search box at the top of the site page, use the 4 search words 'parish', 'register', 'yorkshire' and the name of the parish. If this doesn't work and you know the YPRS volume numbers covering the parish, use that as the fourth word in the form '(volume 13)'. And if that doesn't work, be patient. When I get time over the next few days I'll post to the mailing list an update of the order in which the parishes/volumes are listed and it's then just a case of counting through the entries. If anyone has found a better way to decipher this frustrating site, please let me know, sharpish. Happy hunting, Dom. P.S. The link to the site is repeated below. If you have had difficulty getting to the site, make sure you are copying the whole link which may cover more than one line. http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=parish%20register%20yorkshire&sort=- publicdate
