    3. Tony, All the best after your heart surgery. I had a stent operation 5 years ago & no trouble since! I'd be interested in any SPIVEY data that you might have. It seems that there are more Spiveys in USA than Yorkshire these days. There are only about 50 in Australia that I know of. My Yorkshire Spiveys seem to be mostly around Huddersfield. Hope it all goes well for you. John Spivey. -----Original Message----- From: west-riding-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:west-riding-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Tony Cheal Sent: Sunday, 14 August 2011 6:14 PM To: Yorksgen; eng-yks-harrogate@rootsweb.com; west-riding@rootsweb.com; Tony Cheal Subject: [WRY] 123,000 names to browse McAfee SiteAdvisor Warning This e-mail message contains potentially unsafe links to these sites: harrogatepeopleandplaces.info I'm back !! 3. Hi John As requested : Harrogate Herald - 11th May 1932 Harrogate Bride at Shanghai Well-Known Vocalist Married Chinese Teacher and Scholars Attend Ceremony A marriage of considerable interest in local musical circles was solemnised at the Holy Trinity Cathedral, Shanghai, on April 2nd, when Hilda Crowther, only daughter of Mr & Mrs P J Crowther, of 11a Leeds Road, Harrogate, was married to Reginald Spivey, of Shanghai, son of the late Thomas Spivey and Mrs Spivey, of Heckmondwike. Miss Crowther, formerly a well-know local vocalist, sailed for Shanghai in January. She was a member of the Harrogate Wesleyan Church Choir and the Harrogate Operatic Society. Mr Spivey is a master at the Polytechnic School in Shanghai, and a large number of Chinese teachers and scholars attended the ceremony, which was performed by the Very Rev Dean Trivett. Lloyd Williams was the best man, and the groomsmen were Mr E C Smith and Mr C L Hindson. The cathedral was beautifully decorated with spring blooms. The bride, who was given away by Lewis Kershaw, wore a lovely gown of French cream silk lace and georgette, with a cream hat to tone. Her bouquet was of tea roses. The matron-on-honour was Mrs L Kershaw, who wore a dress of pale pink lace and georgette. She carried a bouquet of mauve and pink sweet peas. Little Miss Eve Kershaw, who attended the bride as flower girl, wore a long dress composed of tiny net pink frills, with a close-fitting cap of the same material, and carried a Victorian posy of pink sweet peas and primulas. A reception was held at the home of Mr & Mrs Kershaw, and was largely attended. Mr Valpy is an engineer working with East African Railways and Harbours. HA - 18th February 1994 [Follow-up TFS on the above which indicates that Emily died in Ward A4 of Harrogate District Hospital] HA - 9th June 2000 Outstanding police officers from across the Harrogate district will receive commendation awards this morning. Commander of North Yorkshire Police's Western area, Supt Andy Parker will present the awards for officers who have shown outstanding courage or ability at a ceremony in Boroughbridge. The work of DC Mark Pearson of Harrogate during the Investigation into a murder on the Jennyfield estate last year will be recognised. The chief prosecutor involved in the case, Andrew Robertson QC, praised his excellent handling of the difficult task of interviewing Donna Tinker who had killed her husband, Richard. DC Pearson will also get recognition for his work, along with Harrogate DCs Jon Spivey and Paul Somerville and PC Roger Kidd of Knaresborough, in the capture of the Spofforth Post Office robbers back in 1998. DC Spivey's part in catching two men who were responsible for several high value burglaries in Harrogate in 1998 and 1999 will also earn him another award. Commendation awards also go to POs Chas Petty and Richard Lang of Harrogate police. In 1997, police received a call from three men at a working men's club who said they had been robbed at gunpoint with money being taken from a safe. The two PCs attended the call, immediately became suspicious, and later searched the premises where they found a large quantity of cash in a dustbin. As a result of their investigations, the three men were charged with an offence of conspiracy to steal. A Crown Court Commendation will also be presented to Det Sgt Nigel Sykes of Harrogate who interviewed an alleged child sex offender. In November 1999, at the conclusion of the offender's trial, the trial judge commented on his professional and sympathetic manner in a 'model interview'. Grateful for any additional information on the above SPIVEY names for my Harrogate Database Thanks PS - More to follow !
