Help Barrie > Haigh from lovely Anna Bay Australia > The best suggestion I can offer is to ignore Ancestry and sign up with Findmypast, which has the full 1911 census with indexes, transcriptions and images - and has done so since January 2009. You can purchase pay-as-you-go units rather than take out a year's subscription. -- Roy Stockdill Genealogical researcher, writer & lecturer Newbies' Guide to Genealogy & Family History: www.genuki.org.uk/gs/Newbie.html "There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about." Barrie and other interested members. There is a way to view the actual 1911 census pages on Ancestry. It is a bit complicated and as Roy says it is more straight forward to use Findmypast, if you have a subscription to the site. I will try to explain how to use the Ancestry site. In the census section on Ancestry you first of all need to use the 1911 summary book section. Put in the surname you are seeking and if you the know the actual address that they might be living enter that, and enter the registration district where you think they should be. Entering the forename at this point is not always useful since many are just listed as Mr or Mrs. Click on search and you will get a list of names and addresses. You then need to go through the list until you find the one that is most likely to be yours. Having found the one that you want click on "View Record". This bring up the details of the census entry. Make a note of the Schedule number for the household the county the civil parish, the sub-registration district the enumeration district. You can actually open two versions of Ancestry on your PC at home, I don't know if this applies to using it at the public libraries or not, but if you open two versions, you have all the details in one version whilst you then use the second version to use the 1911 England Census. Go the Census collection on Ancestry and select 1911 England census. This brings up the page where you have to select County, civil parish etc. Fill in the details you have found from the entry on the 1911 summary books. You will then get the first page of the summary book. At the top right hand corner of this picture it shows "Image 1 of *** " ( *** being the number of pages in the book). This is where you then use the schedule number for your family. Each schedule has two pages and there will be one or two pages at the beginning of the book. You then need to double the schedule number and add one or two. Put the resulting number in the box next to the word "image" and select go. This should take you to the census page for your family. If it doesn't, go forward one or two or back one or two. It's not so easy to explain in writing, but I hope that you will be able to work it out. The entries for the 1911 census are not shown in the same way as the previous (1841-1901) census sheets. You get jus one family per page, but you can look at the families on the neighbouring schedules, which will be the next door neighbours for your family. Any problems, get in touch and I will see if I can sort it out for you.
