If a marriage is prior to 1837 it is very unlikely that a fathers name will be found, UK marriage records before Civil registration (1837) do not contain fathers names. In this case, I would bet almost anything that Sam the collier was the father of Hannah b. 1926, Samuel Jr. born 1829, and Mary b. 1831. Given the age difference between Nancy and Hannah, I would guess that Nancy was a sister of Sam the collier. If you could find the marriage record for Nancy and John Shaw (probably between 1827 - 1841), you might find her father's name (and therefore Sam the collier's). I'd love to hear later if I am right or wrong about this! My 2nd great grandmother Mary Robinson married Alfred Boyes in 1857 and her father was not recorded on the marriage record or certificate. In 1841 aged 10 she is a 'lodger' at the home of John Shaw and his wife Nancy (nee Robinson) who is aged 30. Also lodging there are Hannah Robinson aged 15 and Samuel Robinson aged 12. In 1851 Mary is a 'lodger' with Hannah who is then married to Joseph Houldsworth. Hannah's marriage certificate states her father was Samuel Robinson, a collier. Subsequent censuses show Mary was born in Clayton, and 1861 states Dolphin. It seems to me that my only hope of getting any further is to find the baptisms of Mary, Samuel, Hannah and Nancy to find out how they are related. Thank you in advance for any advice or help on how to solve this mystery, Jenny Parker Some useful websites - FREECEN - http://www.freecen.org.uk/ FREEBMD - http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/ FREEREG - http://www.freereg.org.uk/ Want to know where a place in Yorkshire is - Try Genuki http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/ ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to WEST-RIDING-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message Some useful websites - FREECEN - http://www.freecen.org.uk/ FREEBMD - http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/ FREEREG - http://www.freereg.org.uk/ Want to know where a place in Yorkshire is - Try Genuki http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/ ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to WEST-RIDING-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
