Ancestry have made a complete shambles of the West yorkshire registers. EG. If you browse for records of Kippax St Mary, the records you get are actually Kirk Deighton. Castleford St Johns is listed as having burials 1888-1904, the church never had any burial registers and didn't open until 1905, the records listed under this church are actually Castleford All Saints. Registers listed as Wakefield Christchurch pre 1813 are actually a mixture of early Castleford registers and Pontefract St Giles. So your duplicate baptisms could be the same images listed as 2 different churches they don't seem to have a clue what they are doing. I'm not sure it's Ancestry's fault. I checked out the example Gordon Dyson gives below, and the entry is indexed twice, once under St Peter's Sowerby and once under St John's Royston. So you can find the real information - even the indexation of the Royston one says Sowerby. BUT the Sowerby set of images is 5 pages long, and is all from Sowerby. The Royston set is 10 pages long, and changes to Sowerby at page 7. So someone has provided a set which is already muddled. To make things more diffcult to understand, the WYAS labelling at the foot of the image disappears at page 7, so I can't tell what the labelling is for the Sowerby pages. Two things are clear to me: we should ask Wakefield what they think has happened. And we should always use the images not the record.
