As a very rough guess, it looks as though the person concerned might have been trying to write Hebblethwaite. If you are unable to write that would be very hard to remember and write correctly! OK, so it looks like perhaps this info is not easily to hand. Does anyone know if this info is even recorded/archived? I am hoping to visit the UK before too long - any ideas where could I find/view this info (if, in fact, it is available)? Hi Lianne There are many strange transcriptions of Micklethwaite, however Thomas Micklethwaites are in short supply in Huddersfield at this time. There's one in Birstall, father of Sophia baptised 1832, so it is a possibility. HTH Andy. At 17:03 15/08/2011, you wrote: >Thank you all three. The electoral roll might have survived. The rate books possibly exist. Try an email to the local/county record office for starters. Google Genuki+thornhill lees if you need assistance to find contact details. Tony, All the best after your heart surgery. I had a stent operation 5 years ago & no trouble since! I'd be interested in any SPIVEY data that you might have. It seems that there are more Spiveys in USA than Yorkshire these days. There are only about 50 in Australia that I know of. My Yorkshire Spiveys seem to be mostly around Huddersfield. Hope it all goes well for you. Hi John As requested : Harrogate Herald - 11th May 1932 Harrogate Bride at Shanghai Well-Known Vocalist Married Chinese Teacher and Scholars Attend Ceremony A marriage of considerable interest in local musical circles was solemnised at the Holy Trinity Cathedral, Shanghai, on April 2nd, when Hilda Crowther, only daughter of Mr & Mrs P J Crowther, of 11a Leeds Road, Harrogate, was married to Reginald Spivey, of Shanghai, son of the late Thomas Spivey and Mrs Spivey, of Heckmondwike. Miss Crowther, formerly a well-know local vocalist, sailed for Shanghai in January. She was a member of the Harrogate Wesleyan Church Choir and the Harrogate Operatic Society. Mr Spivey is a master at the Polytechnic School in Shanghai, and a large number of Chinese teachers and scholars attended the ceremony, which was performed by the Very Rev Dean Trivett. Lloyd Williams was the best man, and the groomsmen were Mr E C Smith and Mr C L Hindson. The cathedral was beautifully decorated with spring blooms. The bride, who was given away by Lewis Kershaw, wore a lovely gown of French cream silk lace and georgette, with a cream hat to tone. Her bouquet was of tea roses. The matron-on-honour was Mrs L Kershaw, who wore a dress of pale pink lace and georgette. She carried a bouquet of mauve and pink sweet peas. Little Miss Eve Kershaw, who attended the bride as flower girl, wore a long dress composed of tiny net pink frills, with a close-fitting cap of the same material, and carried a Victorian posy of pink sweet peas and primulas. A reception was held at the home of Mr & Mrs Kershaw, and was largely attended. Mr Valpy is an engineer working with East African Railways and Harbours. He met his bride when she was working in the Queen Elizabeth Overseas Nursing Service at the African District Hospital at Eldoret in the White Highlands of Kenya. HH - 1st May 1968 Photo - Janet Spivey, only daughter of Mr & Mrs D Spivey, of Woodfield Road, Harrogate, and John Harvey Ketteringham, only son of Mrs M Ketteringham of Stonefall Avenue, Starbeck, and of the late Mr W M O Ketteringham, pictured after their wedding in St Luke's Church, Harrogate, on Saturday. The bride is a telephonist and the bridegroom is an engineer at the General Post Office. Harrogate Advertiser - 5th April 1991 The family of the late John Spivey would like to thank relatives, friends and neighbours for the kind letters, cards and expressions of sympathy received during their recent sudden and sad bereavement, also thanks to the local doctors for their care and kindness. The Rev J W Balderson for the service and his comforting address and for donations to the 24 hour analyser appeal for the Cardiac Department, Harrogate District Hospital. Service at Harrogate Crematorium on Friday, February 11th. Donations may be given to St Michael's Hospice, 35 Oatlands Drive, Harrogate. HA - 18th February 1994 [Follow-up TFS on the above which indicates that Emily died in Ward A4 of Harrogate District Hospital] HA - 9th June 2000 Outstanding police officers from across the Harrogate district will receive commendation awards this morning. Commander of North Yorkshire Police's Western area, Supt Andy Parker will present the awards for officers who have shown outstanding courage or ability at a ceremony in Boroughbridge. The work of DC Mark Pearson of Harrogate during the Investigation into a murder on the Jennyfield estate last year will be recognised. The chief prosecutor involved in the case, Andrew Robertson QC, praised his excellent handling of the difficult task of interviewing Donna Tinker who had killed her husband, Richard. DC Pearson will also get recognition for his work, along with Harrogate DCs Jon Spivey and Paul Somerville and PC Roger Kidd of Knaresborough, in the capture of the Spofforth Post Office robbers back in 1998. DC Spivey's part in catching two men who were responsible for several high value burglaries in Harrogate in 1998 and 1999 will also earn him another award. Commendation awards also go to POs Chas Petty and Richard Lang of Harrogate police. In 1997, police received a call from three men at a working men's club who said they had been robbed at gunpoint with money being taken from a safe. The two PCs attended the call, immediately became suspicious, and later searched the premises where they found a large quantity of cash in a dustbin. As a result of their investigations, the three men were charged with an offence of conspiracy to steal. A Crown Court Commendation will also be presented to Det Sgt Nigel Sykes of Harrogate who interviewed an alleged child sex offender. In November 1999, at the conclusion of the offender's trial, the trial judge commented on his professional and sympathetic manner in a 'model interview'. Grateful for any additional information on the above SPIVEY names for my Harrogate Database Thanks PS - More to follow ! Details can be found at Google Books, where a search facility will give access to snippets of the contents. The complete contents can be viewed on Ancestry.com ( subscription needed). I was looking for HEY family information and found a useful mention of Isaac HEY in the 1760s in a list of Churchwardens. Hi Linda, I expect you've looked at this marriage on FreeBMD: Marriages Sep 1861 (>99%) Cliberon Priscilla Halifax 9a 604 Cliberow Priscilla Halifax 9a 604 Keighley John Whitely Halifax 9a 604 Mallinson Emma Halifax 9a 604 Simpson Charles Halifax 9a 604 That seems to tick all the boxes so my guess is that Priscilla was a widow when she married Charles or perhaps was born a HALL but her mother may have remarried to a CLIBEROW/N so she was using that name at the time of her marriage? Widowhood seems most obvious but I can't find a marriage for a Priscilla HALL to a CLIBEROW/N. Could be worth getting this marriage cert to see what it says? I have been unable to find a birth record or marriage for her & Charles, although according to the birth certificate of their number 1 son, her maiden name was HALL and this was confirmed on the death certificate of one of her other children. Charles and Priscilla had 7 children and she died in 1882 in Halifax. I have tried several names that sound like HALL to no avail, can anyone please help? cheers Linda
Hi Louise This sounds like a brilliant offer. I have a small (2" x 3" approx) sepia photo which I would love to have restored. Can you give me a rough idea of how much it would cost, please? If i can restore my photos and be pleased with them, then maybe there are persons on the list who also have damaged photos who would love for them to be restored. > > If you are interested in me doing this for you please contact me off list.
