Judith, thanks for the offer to look up cemetary records for Guiseley/Yeadon deposited in Leeds Library for me. A few years ago I managed to get them myself after writing to the Guiseley Council Office. If I hadn't already got them I would have been pleased to accept your offer. Thanks. Kate Hands, Australia
Thanks Peter but I have yet to find the deaths of either Arthur or Mary Ann Hinton. In 1901 they were 55 and 52 respectively and whilst I have ploughed through a number of years in the GRO index, have not been able, so far, to locate either. Hi Gail, He could have gone to any secondary school in Leeds, or to Airborough Grammar School in Guiseley. My mother went there. It has now been demolished about 10 years ago. I don't know where the school records are, but could be in the West Yorkshire archives at Sheepscar, Leeds. Hope this helps. Have you thought about obtaining a death certificate for either Mary Anne or Arthur HINTON. The certificate will show the name and address of the informant. It will quite likely be a son or daughter. If it is a daughter then again quite likely it will show her married name. This should give you more leads so as to be able to make further enquiries. Peter R Wood in the Isle of Man
I am new to the list and am hoping that from among the subscribers, someone will be able to help with my HINTON family. My ancestor, Mary Ann LAW married Arthur HINTON in Essex in 1872. By 1881, Arthur HINTON b 1844, housepainter is living with Mary Ann at Montserrat, Tong with their children Lizzie b 1878 and Frederick Arthur b 1880. In 1891 they are living in Heeler St, Tong with additional children, Ernest b 1881, Florence b 1883, Mary Ann and John (twins) b 1885, Alfred b1887 and Lennett b 1889. They are still in Tong in 1901, Arthur is still a painter and there is an additional member of the family, Harry b 1894. I have located possible local marriages for some of the children but would be grateful for any help offered to follow the family through to more recent times. Robin Law.
Hi I'm looking for the family of James SPEIGHT who is thought to have been born in Wakefield about 1834 to parents John & Eliza SPEIGHT. Siblings of James may have been Vincent, Sarah Ann & Eleanor/Elinor. I can't find them on the 1851 census. James SPEIGHT married Mary Jane JENKINSON in 1859 (GRO 1859 Sep Qt York 9d 96). Between that time and the spring of 1861, when they left for New Zealand, they are thought to have had 2 children (Emma - 1860 Dec Qt Bradford Yk 9d ??) and one other. James SPEIGHT founded a well known brewery here. We would like to know where they lived in the Bradford area and if their home still exists. If anyone has any connection with, or knows anything about this family's history, we would love to hear from you. Mabel in NZ
I am researching the HIELD family from Escrick and Chapel Haddlesy nr Birkin West Yorkshire. I have a transcript of a letter which was sent to America dated 1846 (This is a section of the letter) " Chapel Hadellesy Jan 26, 1846 Dear Sis and Children I duly received your letter and newspaper dated Oct 27th in about 5 weeks, but had seen that you had sent to Mr Wilkerson a while before and am glad to here of your health. You have by this time felt what it is to be a stranger in a strange land but a conviction in your own mind. you are in the way of Providence is a consolation. I much doubt Bro Blyth being well but I fear from an account i heard from mrs. ? he is not alive you may have heard from the family he has bought a farm near Roschester at a high price. You be much hurt to hear George Hield of Scarborough took a fever I think with much exertion when the railway was opened through excess of business his mother came to wait upon him was frequently delirious and in a few weeks died. Thomas went to see him and fret much. He died in harvest. Thomas was at our house at the time. " I am trying to find GEORGE HIELD of Scarborough who died in 1845 at Scarborough on the 1841 census. I have tried all kinds of variation for the spelling including Field ! Please could someone tell me how wide an area i should search for Scarborough on the 1841 census. Even better if its not to much to ask, could someone find him for me. I know some of the 1841 census is unreadable so that might after all be why i cannot find him. The auther of the letter was also a GEORGE HIELD born in 1800 in Escrick, son of Richard and Elizabeth HIELD. My g-great-grandmother MARGARET GILBERTSON married him in 1842 in at Aldborough (near York). George was a farmer of Chapel Haddlesy with three children from a previouse marriage. I have the marriage and death cert for this GEORGE, he died in 1847 at Chapel Haddlesy, Birkin, Yorkshire. Thank you Carole _________________________________________________________________ The next generation of Hotmail is here! http://www.newhotmail.co.uk

Thank you for your help John. I will have a look at that site this evening. I am looking for a person who went to school in Leeds in the 1860's/70's .
