    1. [WRY] PAF 5
    2. David Drake
    3. Hi listers, Some help required please. I have for some time being using PAF 5 to record details of my ancestors and find it a great asset. However I now find a need to create a new PAF with my paternal grandmother at the head of it. There must surely be a way to extract this detail but for the life of me I can't figure it out. Is there anyone out there who would be willing to list the steps. Thanks in anticipation of some help. David Drake

    3. Open your PAF file Go to FILE then to Export select "Partial" and press "Select" highlight your grandmother's name and select "All Related" (or anscestors/decendents or whatever you want to sort them by) and press "Select" Export the file and give it a name and then open that file into PAF and that should be it? 3. Hi, When you select export there is a screen that comes up and you need to make sure notes are checked. Then go to partial and select;, at the bottom those individuals you want and create the gedcom. Then create and name a new paff and import that gedcom. It should bring all your notes. You may also need to go into preferences and make some choices also. 3. Hi Rod, I know it was some time since you posted on this topic, but my antennae are waving! GERRARD / GERARD can be a surname from the northeast of Scotland (Aberdour ABN seems to be a source with BAIN not far away either) although EVANS errs on the Welsh side. I currently looking for birth and parentage of William GERRARD b 1750-1760 who married Isobel CHALMERS in Boyndie BAN. (a) You might like to look to the Aberdeenshire List - there is Gerrard thread going on at this very moment (b) If you do trace back there or thereabouts, let me know! However, even bearing in mind the disconnection London / Haworth & Bradford, the IGI has:- WILLIAM GERRARD EVANS & ISABELLA JANE BAIN Marriage: 04 JAN 1853 Saint Mary Le Strand, Westminster, London M042891 and I would not be surprised if this isn't him: WILLIAM GERRARD EVANS Christening: 01 OCT 1817 St Mary Whitechapel, Stepney, London Parents: JOSEPH EVANS NAOMI C006298 Siblings: British Isles : Father: Joseph Evans, Mother: Naomi 1. 1. [WRY] St Catherines school 1948
    2. hiya, a friend has asked me if I know/knew of a school in Pontefract called St Catherine's I can't recall one & there are no churches with that name. Nearest one I know is at Wakefield just up road from the 10pin bowling alley & rugby ground. It was destroyed by fire some years ago & a new Church built there. Not sure if they had a school? My friend has been sent couple of photos with some young girls in uniform. The name St Catherine's School 1948 Pontefract wrote on some of them. thanks for any help, Maureen

Therefore, if you have family connection with Kirkheaton Parish now could be a good time to get in touch with any existing relatives. If I can get some interest I am looking at putting a Contact list in Church for the exhibition, please e-mail me. I am going to do a graveyard walk/talk so to lighten it up I am looking for funny or unusual epitaphs. If you are on other lists, would you please forward this e-mail? Steve

    3. Hi Sandra, If you look at the "messages:" and "Source Information:" on the IGI Individual Record after you find it you can clik on the underlined "Batch No" and "Source Call No.:" and it will give you information. Let me give an example. step 1: I searched for Mally Kershaw with Parents John Kershaw and Sarah (ususally in the parish records only the mothers name is given). step 2: From this list I opened the Individual Records and found the one with the Message "Extracted birth or christening record for locality listed in the record. The source records are usually arranged chronologically by the birth or christening date." I choose this one because it was extracted from origional microfilm records. It went thru two or more checks and is usally the most accurate as you don't know what the member seached on the member subbmitted ones> step 3: (I see the source call no. is 942.74 B1 B4B V.4 Book (This would be in the SL Family History Library. ) I click on the P009141 and when it brings up the seach page with this number in I type in the father's name John Kershaw. (Because some records list only the father. I get a list of 8 names. SURPRISE! # 8 is Hannah Kershaw Ch 16 Jul 1785 with just the father listed on the individual record as is Mally's. Could this be a twin? The other 6 names have the father's full name and mother's first name. I also see Grace's surname was missread as "Cershaw" by the extractors. step 4: I don't see Jonas, so I go back to seach page and type in just jonas's first name and look at the list to see if there is another missread, but can't find it. I can now leave the seach page blank except for the batch no and go thru the whole list page by page to see if there is any that could be him. Some times on the last page there are things like "child" or unknow that could be him or he might be in another parish etc. It still pays to go back to the origionals and check even with the extracted ones. In the FHlibrary search of bradford I found England, York, Thornton (near Bradford) then England, York, Thornton (near Bradford) - Church records then Parish register transcripts, 1678-1820 it is on 1597212 items 1-8 are the parish register for Church of England Chaperlry of Thornton (near Bradford. The member submission records are the origional temple records and can only be viewed by members who hold a current temple recommend or letter from their Bishop and are in the Salt Lake FHlibrary in special rooms. There you can see the origional family group sheets submitted. Some of them do have references, but most of the ones I've looked at don't have any. Hope this helps, and is clear enough, if not feel free to contact me. 3. Hi, thank you for that trouble, I did manage to discover the 1861 entry and noticed the 2 instead of 22. Thank goodness for access to the originals. They married according to Free BDM 1860 so this is obviously before their first child. Their daughter Edith is my connection she married John Schofield, my father's grandparents. Edith and John had a daughter Annie who married into our Wood line which is why I haven't followed up on them much. My dad is still alive so I keep trying to jog his memory but his mother died when he was 8. I can't recollect why I don't think Richard is actually his father. I found in the Slaithwaite baptism John Lunn 16th Dec 1832 presumably father Richard. 5th June 1836 James. So according to my earlier records. I have John 1832, James 1836 and Joseph 1838. So it looks more like Charlotte could be a second wife. One of the reasons I am not sure of Richard as really being a father is that Joseph didn't name any of his children Richard. Dyson is clearly after his wife who I am sure was Mary Ann DYSON. Admittedly he only had 2 sons the rest were girls. He named the other one Joe. There seems to be a connection between the slaithwaite LUNN's and Staleybridge. I am sure it is work related. I hadn't thought to look under Dunn. Maybe that is an option for the 1841 census. I didn't find anything in BDM for Joseph LUNN, although he might be on the Cheshire list. It looks like a birth certificate might be necessary for further knowledge although I am wary of birth certificates because it is easy to get the wrong one if all you have to go on is the name so I like to explore other options. Hi Jean, I have a NUNNS connection and couldn't find the family in one of the censuses, they had been mis-transcribed as HUMMS, so may be worth checking with "i" and "m" instead of "u" and "n". 1. [WRY] Joseph LUNN
    2. Jean-Terry
    3. In the 1881 census there is a Joseph LUNN born about 1839 in Staleybridge, Lancashire living at 247 Scar Wood Terrace, Golcar. In 1891, I find him in the Infirmary, haven't yet located the rest of his family but I believe his wife died in 1888 I also think she was Mary Ann DYSON who he married in 1860. In the 1901 census he is living in Longwood with his son Dyson, and son Joe, daughter Frances and Florence (ENTWISTLE). In 1851 he is living at Road Side (I think Linthwaite or Slaithwaite) and Richard LUNN is listed as father. Mother is listed as Charlotte (although I am wondering if she is a second wife). Each time Joseph lists place of birth as Staleybridge, Lancashire. I haven't been able to discover him in 1841 census or in 1861 or 1871 so far. If anyone wants a challenge and cares to hunt with me (I have a subscription to Ancestry.) I would appreciate this. I suppose I could send for a birth certificate and might eventually but at the moment I can't find the details for that either. Jean in S.Australia.

    3. Hello Jean I've just spent a happy hour or so exploring your Lunns! In 1861 he is at Jubilee, Linthwaite, with his wife Mary Ann. He is a cleaner. Ancestry have his age transcribed as 2 instead of the 22 which it clearly is on the image. Ref: RG9 Piece 3270 Folio 90 Page 21 In 1871 he is transcribed as Dunn on Ancestry: Joseph 29 Woollen teaser Mary Ann 29 Anne 9 Dyson 6 Edeth 3 Florence 1 All at Crossley Place Linthwaite Ref: RG10 Piece 4339 Folio 10 Page 13 I can't find him, Richard or Charlotte in 1841. There is a Richard Lunn stonecutter in Ravensworth in 1841, of about the right age, not with a family. I wondered if Joseph was maybe Charlotte's child but not Richard's - there's an awfully big gap and don't appear to be any others near Joseph's age. Maybe William H's birth certificate would give a lead. Anne PS Found them on The Genealogist! >In the 1881 census there is a Joseph LUNN born about 1839 in Staleybridge, >Lancashire living at 247 Scar Wood Terrace, Golcar.
