    1. Re: [WRY] Evans's in Haworth (GERARD)
    2. Rod Evans
    3. Hi Howard, Roy and others, Thanks for helping with info in finding Frederic Henry EVANS. I have sent an email to the Haworth Masonic lodge in the hope that FHE'S father, William Evans was a member of the lodge about 1850- 60's, since my grandfather and his brother were members in NZ. Unfortunately I have had no reply. I will check out William Gerrard Evans, but I don't expect it is my one. I have seen GERRARDS in Scotland, but have no way of connecting them to Isabella GERARD. I contacted a descendant of FHE first marriage and she said the Gerard's' escaped from France during the last French revolution, I which I presume was in the late 1790's. Does this make the Gerard's Huguenots? I have a photo taken about the 1870's of FHE and an old lady whom I presume to be his grandmother. Her style of clothing may give some indication the person she was, that is, if she was French, but I have no skills in determining this. I am quite happy to send an image by email if anyone is interested. Also, is spelling Frederic without the (k) a continental practise more than an English one? GERRARD / GERARD can be a surname from the northeast of Scotland (Aberdour ABN seems to be a source with BAIN not far away either) although EVANS errs on the Welsh side. I currently looking for birth and parentage of William GERRARD b 1750-1760 who married Isobel CHALMERS in Boyndie BAN. (a) You might like to look to the Aberdeenshire List - there is Gerrard thread going on at this very moment (b) If you do trace back there or thereabouts, let me know! However, even bearing in mind the disconnection London / Haworth & Bradford, the IGI has:- WILLIAM GERRARD EVANS & ISABELLA JANE BAIN Marriage: 04 JAN 1853 Saint Mary Le Strand, Westminster, London M042891 and I would not be surprised if this isn't him: WILLIAM GERRARD EVANS Christening: 01 OCT 1817 St Mary Whitechapel, Stepney, London Parents: JOSEPH EVANS NAOMI C006298 Siblings: British Isles : Father: Joseph Evans, Mother: Naomi 1. 2. Jean-Terry
    3. Hi again, I did a bit more searching around and discovered that David LUNN married either Mary KILBRIDE or Mary HOBSON in 1847. Hannah was born in 1857 and David died about 1860. BDM show a potential marriage between Mary LUNN and William LUNN in 1866 and by 1873 there is a death recorded for William LUNN So this would suggest that Hannah born 1857 and living in Linthwaite in 1876 listing William as father (deceased) could in fact have been the daughter of David who might have died and her mother could have married William. I'll have to do more work on this. I just wondered if anyone had any Linthwaite Baptismal records to fall back on. Jean Spence

    3. I have a marriage certificate for Hannah LUNN aged 19 in 1876 (1857 dob) a weaver residence Linthwaite. Father given as William LUNN deceased. Occupation Weaver. She married Chrispin ELLAM Now the only Hannah LUNN born 1857 I have ever been able to find is the daughter of David LUNN and she was christened at Linthwaite. I've just been playing around with Ancestry as so much more is available now than the last time I looked at this. What intrigues me is that she is my husband's great grandmother and my great grandmother was Edith LUNN. I wanted to find a relationship but couldn't so this went in the two hard basket. I wondered if William never married Hannah's mother and she married David who is definitely deceased. Or if the mother married again and William is the step-father who is also deceased or if they simply have the wrong name. It is hard to send for birth certificates if you doubt the correctness of the information you have. Can anyone offer any suggestions. Jean in S.Australia.
