The volumes are absolutely ENORMOUS and heavy and there must be hundreds of them! They record transactions back to 1704. As far as I am aware there is only one way to access them and that is to go to Wakefield and inspect them yourself or hire a local researcher who knows their way around them to do it for you. If you enter "West Riding Deeds Registry" into Google you will find a PDF file about the books and the indexes. I believe the registry do a search service but it could be expensive. When I was there some years ago I learned that a single copy of an entry cost 28 pounds!!! The registry is not much used by genealogists, but principally by solicitors. Be warned that many of the entries are in complex legal jargon and it's not always easy to know what is going on. -- Roy Stockdill Editor, Journal of One-Name Studies Guild of One-Name Studies website: www.one-name.org Newbies' Guide to Genealogy & Family History: www.genuki.org.uk/gs/Newbie.html "There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about." Antonio D'AMBROSIO born 1855 in italy. In 1881 I have him in London with who I think are his two brothers Angelo and Goivio in lodgings. I found him in 1901 with wife MINNIE in Rickergate, Carlisle. Thought this was possible as he was a street musician. I have not been able to locate him in 1891 or his marriage. Is Minnie a nickname as she too was born in Italy. Hi Margaret.....Perhaps as a street musician he traveled around to tourist areas? I found this: March Qtr. 1898 ANTONIO D'AMBROSIO & CATERINA CERVI Registered at Bath 5c 927 And as a long shot: September Qtr. 1885 ANTONIO D'AMARIO & VOLANTE MARIA GIUSEPPA Registered at Tunbridge 2a 1042 Minnie *could* be a nickname for Filomena....although, coming from a large Italian family on my Dad's side, I know that many Italian immigrants used the name "Minnie" for all sorts of foreign sounding first names when they left Italy. I have several in that side of the family. Were there any children with them in the 1901 census? That could narrow down their marriage date. Best wishes....mary lou ************************************** Get a sneak peek of the all-new AOL at http://discover.aol.com/memed/aolcom30tour
Ann, I would be extremely surprised if these had been scanned. There would be large numbers of them and some would be very fragile. The cost would outweigh the small number of sales. I think you would have to visit the WYAS archive in Bradford/Leeds or YAS in Leeds. According to Access2Archives that is where they are held. Hello Listers, I have lost touch with one of our subscribers who is interested in the above names living in Bahrain would they please get in touch with me, Mary from Surrey BC
Hello Listers Ancestry has released the rest of the WW1 British Army Pension papers. My grandfather's papers aren't there and I know he had a pension! A more distant relative is there and has about twenty pages of info and also a copy of his death certificate from when he died in 1946. Don't know when I'll get to bed tonight!! Kind regards Judith K
Hello Listers Hi Listers A few weeks ago someone was enquiring about what the houses looked like on Ashgrove. Whilst looking for another address on Google I came across this document which may well interest anyone with ancestors from Bradford especially in the Little Horton area. It is a 130 page document put out by bradford.gov.uk and is a read only file. There are many photographs, ancient and modern including a few pictures of different houses on Ashgrove. There is also an old photograph showing the mills that were in place where the Alhambra Theatre now is. It seems to be a difficult site to find so I am glad I saved it to my favourites. This is the URL:- www.bradford.gov.uk/NR/rdonlyres I think it can be opened from here, if not just put - ashgrove little horton conservation area into Google and you will find that it will open on the second item. It takes a while to download as it is 130 pages. I've just tried it on Google using the above - ashgrove etc. Good luck Judith K
Hi Judith - I have 81/2 X 11 colored pictures of two houses on Ashgrove - #4 and #25. I received these from Davey Selfridge in British Columbia. We share ancestors. These homes and some others she sent me were lived in by Blanche Eveline Tindle and her family lived in in the Horton area. My grandmother came from 17 Richmond Rd in the Little Horton area. If you're interested I'll send you her email address, if she's not already picked this up on the list. Diane Sullivan California
Thanks for your reply Ruth I think her parents names will remain a mystery Ann Jenkinson is quite a common name in Yorkshire, so there's a lot of them about. Ruth

I doubt very much that she is one of the Doncaster ones, as it is no where near East Ardsley. Doncaster is in todays South Yorkshire and East Ardsley is in West Yorkshire .
