    3. Hi Listers Since starting my Family History, and especially since the advent of online Family History, I have contacted and been contacted by many cousins, some fairly close, some distant and some very distant. However, I have never been in contact with any of my WILD cousins. My 2xgt grandfather, Samuel WILD, was born in Birmingham and was a widower before marrying my 2xgt grandmother, Eliza WILLIS, in 1866 in Halifax. They bore three children; Henry born 1868, Charlotte [my gt grandmother] born 1871 and John Thomas born 1876 - all Ovenden. They lived firstly in Seed Hill Row and then Ovenden Road where Samuel was a self employed Cooper. Henry [Harry] married Elizabeth Ann HANSON in 1900 Charlotte married Richard Fenelon HUSTLER in 1893 I haven't searched for John Thomas yet but he was unmarried in 1901. If anyone is researching this family I will be delighted to exchange information, also, has anyone transcribed any graveyards in Ovenden where my 2x gt gransparents may be buried. My gt grandparents are both buried in Sicklinghall. Kind regards Judith K

    3. Hi folks, It seems my decision to put the list into 'Moderated' mode was correct. If your message wasn't approved then it is because I deemed it unsuitable for posting. Having said that - thanks to those of you who contacted me privately (as requested) I have taken the following steps to see if things improve on the list. * For those of you who are unsure as to how to reply to a message privately - I have set the list default from 'Reply to list' to 'Reply to poster' This now means your replies will go to the sender rather than the list and you will need to address any replies that are meant for the list to West-Riding@rootsweb.com * I have also placed Roy into 'Moderated' mode so that I can check his posts before they are sent to the list. The list will now be set back to normal but please be aware that I reserve the right to moderate or unsubscribe anybody who cannot obey list rules. Cheers, Dave

    3. Oh dear......how many times do I have to repeat myself? I'd check the list archives to see, but to be honest, I can't be bothered For the very last time - If you don't like what another subscriber has to say, contact them PRIVATELY. The majority of our subscribers just want to get on with their research. They are not interested in receiving or being involved in chit-chat or a slanging match. Although Roy's contributions and expertise are welcome, I would like to publicly ask him to take a few deep breaths and consider the effect his reply will have before sending a message in the future. There's no point in continuing the debate on-list as I have placed it in 'Moderated' mode. Any comments, complaints, whinges, whines, moans or groans should be sent to me privately. I would like to hear from anyone genuinely interested in taking over the admin of this list. Cheers, Dave Jassie - List Administrator (for now)

    2. Up to now I have avoided responding to this type of post (this will be my first and last) but for interest I read the responses made by Roy and I believe they are entirely unacceptable. What is the point of people identifying themselves as newbies and asking questions if they immediately get a rude and patronising reply because they are indeed new to this game. Thankfully these types of exchanges have reduced in recent times but so often there seems to be one common factor to them. Roy - please do a little personal self reflection on your approach to other people off line and as my dear old Dad used to say 'when in doubt - say nowt' I will not respond to any reply - whatever is said. > > From: "Roy Stockdill" <roy.stockdill@btinternet.com> > Date: 2007/08/08 Wed AM 11:15:32 BST > To: west-riding@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: [WRY] roy stockdill > > From: rodney watson <pilchard@westnet.com.au> > > > I am having a little trouble dealing with your attitude Roy , if it is > > designed to scare the hell out of newbies , I think you are on the > > right track boyo. :-\> > > Well, tough. 3. Good Morning all from Albany W.A Australia , This query is a "long shot" but worth a try , any chance that Mary Dyson's husband (Abraham Haige),married 1835 , had a sister named Ann or Anne, if it is the Anne I am looking for she will have married a Johnathan Dearden , probably in Northowram or Halifax some time around 1811 if she was his first wife , it is thought he remarried later in life ? Sorry about the vague inquiry but I have many straws that need grasping . Cheers to all ..Rodney Watson

    3. I am interested in the name Petyt as my grandmother came from a Berkshire family called Pettitt. I am assuming that they are from the same source? Does anyone know where they originally came from? We have always assumed that the name was French in origin but from the correspondence from all of you it sounds as if they are more English than I thought. 3. Hi, The references to Methodist records was of interest to me , I thought it might be worth reviving a question I tried to research many years ago. My great great grandfather , Thomas England Byford (b1815 d1849) was a Weslyan Methodist lay preacher for a time. He was born in Castleford and was living in Rotherham in 1841. Does anyone know if there are any records of such preachers please? 3. Roy and listers, Please see messages below re: DEMAIN family. Roy, I note that you said that you were connected, perhaps you are able to aid Lionel ???? Regards, Gail Thanks to everyone who responded to my question regarding John DEMAIN--the advice helped me map out my next research steps. I now have a list of batch numbers, for which I will request source copies from my local LDS center. Hopefully this will help me decide which John DEMAIN -- the one born in 1809 or the one born in 1811 -- is the correct one. This will tell whether the George who married Hannah MOON or the George who married Ellen HOLMES is my 4x grandfather. I did check the census records, hoping to isolate the appropriate John DEMAIN, only to find the in two of the four censuses in which he appears with other known family members, his DOB is 1809 and in the other two it is 1811 -- not much help unfortunately.
