    3. Hello Mary Lou Many thanks for the picture but there was an older building than this, complete with graveyard. The first of my ancestors, which I have found so far, were buried there in 1826 and the register showed earlier burials than this. Many thanks. 3. Carole, if you believe that the place is near Huddersfield, then it could well be Laches or Larch House at Wooldale, Holmfirth. I have seen many variations of this name in the local registers. But then again, there may have been another place at Stainland.......could you let me have the family details and I shall check further. 3. HI Did anyone record tonight's edition of the BBC's 'Who do you think you are '? I think its on again next week - but I'm not sure I can wait! A relative phoned to say he was descended from the Walkers who worked on the Fitzwilliam estate...which is where our Yorkshire Walkers come from! I missed the show as I was sitting in casualty for 3 hours with a broken elbow... If any one could help out with a copy, I'd be so delighted. Bw Sue

    3. Hi Janet Do you mean that the whole of the Shelf Churches/Chapels are going on a CD. I am very interested. Does it include Births, Marriages and Deaths? Do you know if Wade House Chapel is still there and is it complete with graveyard? Also, was Wade House Chapel the one on the right hand side of the road going towards Halifax just passed Brow Lane. Didn't mean this email to sound like the SI!! 3. Hello I found, yesterday, that many of my HOLMES ancestor's and families are buried in the above chapel graveyard. Unfortunately, due to a giant list of items to search in Bradford, I didn't have the time to search the baptisms, just the burials. Have any registers for Wade House been transcribed? Also, is the chapel still there and are there any headstones still surviving? I have tried to find any details on this chapel on Google but nothing useful about the chapel turns up. I appreciate any help anyone can give me. Thank you. Judith K

    3. From: Gail Ball <gball@oddpost.com> > I know you're all full of information so just wondered if anyone knew > what the Nun(n)s Buildings, Broadgate Lane, Horsforth were and who > would have lived there. I have a number of NUNNS family member there > in 1871 census. They were mainly stone masons. I have Googled, but > to no avail.> I don't know the actual buildings personally, but it is likely they were a collection of houses built round a courtyard, tightly packed together, or some such arrangement. They were very common indeed in large towns and cities in the 19th century and you often come across in the censuses names like "Smith's Yard" and "Robinson's Court" etc. Frequently they were named after perhaps the first family to occupy one of the dwellings or possibly after the chap who built them. Since your family were stone masons, it seems possible they were builders as well. If you happen to have the 1881 CDs, do a search in "Neighbours - Advanced Query" by just entering the one word "buildings". You will find many such addresses in Horsforth and elsewhere. I would imagine they were demolished long ago, since such places usually tended to become grossly over-crowded slums. -- Roy Stockdill Editor, Journal of One-Name Studies Guild of One-Name Studies website: www.one-name.org Newbies' Guide to Genealogy & Family History: www.genuki.org.uk/gs/Newbie.html "There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about."
