Hunslet Moor is an area of open space in Hunslet. At the beginning of the 20th century it consisted of a public park, a bowling green plus recreational land. What is there now I'm afraid I don't know. -----Original Message----- From: Stash Sent: Tuesday, August 02, 2011 4:44 PM To: west-riding@rootsweb.com Subject: [WRY] Hunslet and Hunslet Moor Would Hunslet and Hunslet Moor be the same place? Hi Ian I think you are a little bit new on this, so my apologies if I sounded a like bit harsh All you need to do is tell the register Office that there are two possible dates ( give them the periods) and tell them that you want the birth certificate of Louisa who whose parents are Walter Scott / Mary Hannah Burns. If they have it, they will send you it, if not, they will return your cheque. You would be very unlucky to find x2 Louisa's with same parents names With regards the marriage - you can either look at the 1911 census for Louisa married to Barrow or /Chesworth and check her age and place of birth to see if she fits your criteria. I have not got access to the 1911 census, so I cant look it up for you. You could ask someone on the Rootes web list to do a look up for you Alternately, tell the Register Office that you are wanting the marriage certtificate of Louisa Scottt who has a father Walter who occupation is a rope twiner and tell them the two possible dates. Give them her age also. The same rules apply as per the birth certificate, you will not be charged if they cant provide the certificate. The rule in all this is, the more information you tell them, the less chance to obtaining the wrong certificates Some Local Register Office will do up to a five year search if you ask them. I hope that helps you Regards Lenny Researching the Beaumonts of Yorkshire
You can do this from the uk gov web site by clicking on the GRO ref NOT known button. You will then be able to specify your requirements on the next page. You appear to have the mother's maiden name and this will ensure you receive the correct birth cert HB -----Original Message----- From: west-riding-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:west-riding-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Ian H Burns Sent: 02 August 2011 12:19 To: west-riding@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [WRY] Louise SCOTT b Huddersfield 1875 Hi Lenny I think you have misunderstood the question I was asking, or maybe I was not clear enough in my original question. Would Hunslet and Hunslet Moor be the same place? Thank you!
Ian: What you do is request a reference search for the certificate from the GRO. Assuming you know something specific about the one you are interested in, in this case perhaps the mother's name as the fathers are the same. You then provide both Louisa's GRO reference numbers and prioritize them by stating listing them in whatever order you pick. The GRO then looks at the first one and if the references match (i.e. mothers name) then they go no further and send you that first certificate and that is all you pay for. If the first one doesn't match they then look at the next one in the list to find a match. You pay about 3 gbp for each failed search and the full 7 gbp for the correct one. It has been a while since I found the need to order a certificate and I am not certain on the fees today but the failed search used to be slightly less than half the full cost of a certificate Mel Smith Whitby, Ontario, Canada -----Original Message----- From: west-riding-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:west-riding-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Ian H Burns Sent: August 2, 2011 7:19 AM To: west-riding@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [WRY] Louise SCOTT b Huddersfield 1875 Hi Lenny I think you have misunderstood the question I was asking, or maybe I was not clear enough in my original question. I have 2 Louise SCOTTs born in Huddersfield in 1875 (one in the September quarter and the other in the December quarter), both of whom show on the 1881 Census with Walter SCOTT as their father, and I am trying to find out which one fits into my tree before ordering birth/marriage certificates, which will of course show the occupation of the fathers. The only differentiation in the 1881 census is that one Walter is a stone mason and the other is a rope and twine maker. My relative is the rope and twine maker. If anyone already has the information to differentiate between these two I would be most grateful to hear as it would avoid me having to order two sets of certificates. I would also be interested to hear from anyone who connects to this line of rope and twine makers. Ian H Burns Monkton Combe, Bath

If it is not military it could be something connected to the Royal Antedeluvian Orderof Buffaloes. Look up RAOB. My grandfather was a member of a Halifax Lodge. All very secret and not divulged to children. I remember seeing regalia. I am hoping someone on this list may be able to help. I have a photo of an ancestor taken between 1870 and 1913 in Halifax. He has an even sided cross medallion around his neck. If anyone on this list thinks they may be able to help I can send you the photo to view. I have searched and searched and not found what it is yet. I look forward to all your help and ideas. Hello It is a while since I have been researching my family history so I hope I won't break any rules on this site. I am looking for the birth of William LAYCOCK who was baptised on 25 September 1799 Bradford (St Peters Bradford Cathedral). His father was John Laycock. I would like to be able to find the name of his mother. So far I have drawn a blank. If anyone can help that would be great. Thank you Sue
