In the book by Walter Garland Duke, b. 1864 Henry Duke, councilor, his descendants and connections; comprising partial records of many allied families. Pub. by Dietz Press 1949 On pages 328 & 329 it gives the following (in the Cosby lineage) on child #4 of Wm. Overton Tompkins Descendants of William Overton Tompkins and Martha Gilbert. 13b. William Overton Tompkins (Catherine Tompkins, Ann (Dickinson) Tompkins, Ann (Cosby) Tompkins, John Coby, John7 and Charles 7), b. in 1790 and died in 1875; married Martha Gilbert, Their children were. 1. Richard Tompkins 2. Samuel James Overton Tompkins married in 1841 Keziah Cassandra Clark. Thier Children were: a. Martha Ann Maria Tompkins b. Jan 29 1842 in Missouri, and died March 7 1925, in Portland Oregon, and was buried in Des Moines, Iowa. She married James Moffett BROWN, born in 1833 in Durham, England, and died April 8 1876, in Evansville, Ind. THEIR CHILDREN WERE: 1. James Overton Brown, b. 1861 and died 1872. 2. Janet Alice Brown married Charles R. Thompson (no children) 3. Samuel Tompkins Brown, physician; mar. Dec 28 1898, Mary Maude Rowland, daughter of Dr. George and Mary (Spencer) Rowland, of Covington, Ind. their daughter, 1. Mary Margaret Brown married Harold DeCourcy. their children were: a. Elizabeth DeCorcy b. Harold DeCorcy c. John DeCorcy # 4 ANNE LELAND BROWN married July 9 1898 in Chicago ILL., CHARLES EDWIN WEST, son of Fredrick Dadwell WEST and his wife, Josephine Higdon, of Cincinnati, Ohio, daughter of Bejamin Higdon and Mary Truss. THE WEST'S trace back to Richard Warren, of the Mayflower, and to Philip de La Noye (Delano) who came in the "Fortune" to Plymouth in 1621. Phillip de La Noye was of Huguenot ancestry and escaped from France to Holland. THE WEST EMIGRANT was FRANCIS WEST who came from Salisbury, England to Dusbury, Mass. Children: 1. Lelaine Folger West b. Apr. 25 1899 in Chicago, Ill; married in Portland Oregon, July 6 1930 George Lowell Gardinier, son of Frank Gardinier. 2. Janet HIgdon WEst b. Oct 17 1900, in Chicago, Ill; married Oct 8 1926, Horace Huston Easterday, son of Philip Easterday, Their dau. a. Janet Easterday, was born in San Antonio, Tex. Apr. 1929 I have omitted the rest as it all refers back to the Tompkins line.
