Does anyone have anything more about Ruth West, daughter of Dr. Thomas West and their ancestors? Last I heard, her father was related to Francis West but no one seems sure of whom Francis, whom married Margery Reeves, is a descendant. This Ruth m. Edward Cartwright, Jr. and they are my ancestors. A few years ago someone sent me a list of MA marriage records showing their marriage. and through the book written by Stanley Livingston Mack and information contributed to the Family Search, Ancestral Files, I have traced the Cartwrights down to my grandmother. I am now trying to go the other way and find some proof of her ancestry to the Wests from England. Any help would be appreciated. Susan Gardner Frye [email protected]
According to information I have: Francis West [1602 - Jan. 2, 1692 married margaret Reeves. They were from Salisbury, England but no-one has traced Francis's birth record. He is often wrongly attributed to be the son of Captain Francis West and hence back into British Royalty. However, there is absolutely no evidence for these assumptions and lots of evidence to suggest that he was not related to Captain Francis. He was a carpenter by trade. Dr. Thomas West 1646 - Sept. 6, 1706 [son of Francis West & Margery Reeves] m. Elizabeth ?. They lived in Tisbury, Massachussets & are buried there in Crossways cemetery. His daughter Ruth [named after his sister] was born 1in 1685 & married Edward Cartwright.
