    3. Thanks to all who replied to my original message regarding West's in Madison County, KY on the 1792 tax list. The individual I am seeking family for is Samuel West, born circa 1773-75, probably VA. He married Lydia White (Whiteside?) in Clark County, KY in 1796. They had a large family of 13 children all born in counties of Madison, Montgomery and lastly Estill County, KY. Samuel is on the 1810, 1820 & 1830 census in Estill County. Early 1830's he and many of his children moved to Indiana. His son Willis had preceded him. Samuel settled in Montgomery County and some of his children in neighboring, Boone, Hendricks & Putnam County, also. Several of his children and their families remained in Estill County, KY. Samuel died circa 1845 in Montgomery County, Indiana. The only sources I've been able to use up to this point to determine Samuel's birth place have been the census enumerations of his surviving children who all gave VA as the birth place for their father, and various written biographies, family notes, etc., all stating he was born in VA. I've been researching the descendants of this family for quite some time, and just now would like to tackle finding Samuel's family. I've never located anyone who has conclusively connected him to a particular West family or identified parents, who I estimate would be born circa 1750, give or take. I've seen mention that some believe he is linked to the Bladen County, NC West's, but I haven't found anything proving that. Many GEDCOM's list a Willis West as his father, but I've never found anyone with a source for that relationship, either, and have no idea where the original information came from so I can't prove or disprove that. I've tried to educate myself on the early days of Kentucky and the rapidly changing county lines of that time. I've decided this Samuel may or may not have moved much during those years, or at all, but the counties and even the state of Kentucky may have evolved around him, considering much of that area was actually Virginia originally. I've found these graphical, animated maps of the county formations excellent to visualize the counties as they formed or changed in KY and VA: Map of Kentucky http://www.mykentuckygenealogy.com/ky_maps/ky_cf.htm Map of Virginia http://www.myvirginiagenealogy.com/va_maps/va_cf.htm I've also been scanning the West-L archives and others reading prior discussions regarding West's that may have been in the same general areas of KY and formally VA hoping to find some leads. I'm not quoting verbatim, so excuse me for not crediting the original poster, but some of these posts have mentioned: Someone posted to the West List (I believe?) a few years ago, that the family of Samuel West that was in Estill County is linked to the West's that were in Sussex County, Delaware to VA and then to KY. Does anyone have more information on this? It was mentioned by another poster that one way to sort out the two Samuel West's in Madison County was to read John West's will. It was stated, "His branch of the West family moved north to Indiana I think." Does anyone know who this John West was and what his will says? So, I don't have much to go on, but always hoping someone might have a lead or see a conncection for this Samuel West who was born circa 1773-75, in probably VA and then found in the Clark, Madison, Montgomery, Estill Counties of KY by 1796 - 1830. Any suggestions appreciated. Teresa --------------------------------- Sneak preview the all-new Yahoo.com. It's not radically different. Just radically better.
