I don't know if anyone down from your Willis West line has been tested. I have one brother that if we can talk him into having a cheek scrape done, we are going to test, It's hard to know which outfit to go with as far as testing. Some of the sites do list West names but none that are in my line, at least I think not. We have definite medical things going on and I'm Rh-A neg blood type and for some reason we all have crooked little fingers. Go figure. Might be fun. Sandra
My brickwall is George Shelton West (married to Bethann), father of John Thomas West, Conf. vet (POW) from Cass Co., MO, double GG uncle. This family had land in what is known as the Westport part of KC. Geo. was born en route to MO through KY. I have a photo of him (very tall). I also have A- and a crooked little finger. West is on my father's mother's side with Kimberlins, Griffiths, Blairs. My father's father's people were Sextons, Matthews, Prowells, Greens (Indian), Whites, Duskys. His first cousin also has A-. All also from Boone Co., MO, Madison Co., KY before. My mother was more recently Irish & German: Donovan, Lause, Gresner, Baker/Boecker. She also was A-. Anything ring a bell? Where are your Wests from? Sandra, Bradley, and others, We do not yet have a documented descendent of Willis West in our DNA project. Several people are interested in that line, and I am hopeful that we will find the right person to test soon. Sandra, the Y-chromosome DNA test that we are using does not give any medical information. With a very rare exception, 1 in several thousand males may be missing one of the markers called DYS 464. When that occurs, that male may be infertile. The cost of the test has recently gone down a little, you can see the current costs for various tests on the FAQ page of our web site: http://web.utk.edu/~corn/westdna/west2.htm Alice gave the url for the WEST DNA web site, here is the page which lists the oldest ancestor of the DNA participants: http://web.utk.edu/~corn/westdna/west6.htm Please email me if I can help in any way. it appears you need to correct your website as to what the price of a 37 marker test is. I assume you meant the price for the 59 marker test is $269 "$189 for the 37 marker test; $269 for the 37 marker test." mike My Wests come from NY, CT and England prior to 1800 - info back to the 1600's ----- Original Message ----- From: <dwest3@utk.edu> To: <WEST-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, April 03, 2006 8:08 PM Subject: [WEST-L] Willis West & DNA info > Sandra, Bradley, and others, > > We do not yet have a documented descendent of Willis West > in our DNA project.
