Hello Alice, Dennis and everyone - I have enclosed a link to my West line at the bottom of this email. There are around 14 generations. I have proven this line from Francis all the way down but there is much confusion as to who his father was. I am hoping that some of the West's descendants (de le Warr) from the Jamestown Virginia group have had their DNA done. My instincts tell me that we are no relation at all but some cousins insist that royalty and castles await us. Actually I think we are more than likely castle trash (peasants VBG) and I like that. On my mother's side I am supposed from the tri-isolate group called Melungeons. On another side I go back to the Vikings according to Burke's Peerage, The Anglo Saxon chronicles and the Eddas. Plus, I have an aunt that is so dark, they called her "black Betty" her entire life. My sister has Africa in her hair - we had to press it on the ironing board to straighten it. LOL After reading as much on DNA/genealogy as I can, I have this need to know what groups I have in me. This may sound far out but I also believe in genetic memory. Afterall, isn't memory just a cell? Could be wrong. I will check that site out Dennis and thanks so much for sending it along. I would hope that with so many testing facilities now that prices would come down. I keep thinking about the Ice Man they found and were able to get dna from. Who do they test against with the West's and do they know how many lines they have coming down from different West men? In my heart I believe that all of these DNA projects that are taking place are the key to our survival on this planet. It pleases me to be on the planet at the same time with all of you searchers. Thanks for sharing. As for the missing thumbs, webbed problems, look at Ann Boleyn, she was poly-dactyl with six fingers on one hand so perhaps your royalty is showing. VBG Here's the link - hope it helps someone. It is my no mean perfect - I posted it 10 years ago and make changes as I find the need to. http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/p/r/o/Sandra-W-Prowell/GENE1-0001.html if this doesn't work - let me know and I will get it to you some other way. I have a GRIFFITH line from United Kingdom to Canada to WA to CA that go back to Francis WEST. GRIFFITH is on my father's side through his mother's mother, Margret Maria (GRIFFITH) SHEPPARD, b. in Ontario, Canada. Wow! I loved the sites that Clara sent and all the others. Thank you soooooooo much. With this group hot on the trail for facts and confirmations - I don't think the wait will be long to have all of our questions answered. I am in the process of re-reading the Seven Daughters of Eve. And there is an entire chapter devoted to blood types. I know it much be in libraries and by now it should be out in paper. I cannot recommend this book highly enough. It will have you running around wanting to scrape everyone's cheek. LOL This entire DNA checking is such a gift to all of us. Not only are we walking upright (I do have my doubts about a couple of cousins though) we are living in a time when we can be connected thousands of years back giving us some idea as to how we ended where we are. The West lines are kinda tough. But my cousin in Moline, Ill has compiled a wonderful list of ALL our West ancestors and not just a straight line down but each and every sibling from the early 1600's as to who they married and who their kids married. It's a large file: 47 or so pages. Some of the lines are of no interest to me but all of the West information might just help you who are looking for lost West's. Some are in Kentucky/ Tennessee/ Montana/ the colonies/Washington, just a whole bunch of West's. If anyone wants this file I will send it to you. I can do it in WORD or WP. let me know. And the ridge at the back of your head (not everyone has one - my husbands head is totally round and smooth) is called the occipital ridge. Run your hand down the back of your heard. I hit a cliff/ridge of sorts, very pronounced as did my brother and sister. All of this is so fun and I appreciate each and everyone of you. Just know that the important thing here is to get the DNA done. I intend to do just that, have talked my brother in to do it. Now I'm trying to get people to chip in since it would take me a long time to safe that much money. But please, if you have done it yet, please consider it. And again, thank you all for being here. I'm unsure what "scooped" teeth refers to . . . but I did have an extra "lobe" on one of my molars, about which a number of dentists commented. No little finger issues, but I do have the occipital ridge. Strange, I thought everyone's head was built that way! Thank you, Jean West Edwards I am descended from Alman A.
