Hi, When people cames to the United States it seemed the woman lost their maiden names(unless it is preserved). This is very confusing for people to find their ancestors unless it is verbally handed down or a bible is left. Then you have people who came over and didn't want any trouble because of their religion/nationality so, the name changed. Slaves as you know took their masters last name because they didn't have one. I have a name that I am trying to find out if it is American Indian name also.
