My grandmother, Nina Alice West b. 1872 Pike Co. OH d. 1953 Lucas Co. OH, d/o Joseph Sperry West 1841-1911 & Elizabeth Jane Watts 1841-1922 told me that according to legend the WESTS are related to Mary BALL, George Washington's mother, who lived in Fredricksburg, MD. She did not have any wealth. George got his plantation from his brother, who was in the British Navy & named the farm in honor of his admiral - Admiral Vernon. The rest of George Washington's wealth came from Martha Dandridge CUSTIS, a wealthy widow who he married 1759. The Robert E. LEE Family Group are descendants of Martha Dandridge Custis's children by CUSTIS. George Washington fathered NO children - just his Country! Is there any truth to this legend? Jack R. Saylor
